Sounds idyllic – I have such fond memories of OW when I was a regular visitor before we moved down to Kent. Reading some of this season’s threads/posts I really must make a pilgrimage back there next year.

I suppose the clash of interest between the “home team squad member” and their international commitments affects many sports, doesn’t it? Cricket is probably the worse affected because the national game is played alongside the domestic game throughout the season. You make a fair point about the England selection but I think their resolve to move on to the Quarters and beat France is strong.

We can debate the reasons separately but I was simply responding to your post in response to GA, when you seemed not to have understood his comment.:)

I read it differently. I don’t think there is any objection to LHR being the key hub – it would be ridiculous if it were not – but rather that BA should be flying to other destinations, domestic and international, than LHR from the key regional airports. With which I would agree.

No offence taken. We support our teams and hope they win and then whichever way it ends we’ll go and have a beer to celebrate/commiserate.:)

Two points I think. Firstly parents have become far more risk averse and there seem,s to be an inherent fear of danger, possibly because parents who grew up during the war leaned to live with danger whereas a generation or two later the day to day risks seem so much greater because there is no greater danger.

Secondly teachers are frightened of exposing their charges for fear of litigation should accidents befall the children in their care. The old fashioned ethos of “accidents will happen” has been superceded by “who was responsible – see you in court”.:(
