That is an interesting statistic but a fair number might well fall into the same category as my ex-boss many decades ago, referred to a few posts ago, receiving his MBE because his time was due. I wonder how many are simply members of the public who have been given a gong – usually BEM or MBE – for selfless volunteering or charitable good works of some kind or another. Or great acts of bravery or courage.

Indeed – that, in fact, is the most shameful aspect of the Forsyth saga. But as a performer he has always lacked humility. Unashamed self-congratulation is his least endearing characteristic.

Multiculturalism is living within an adoptive country but continuing to live as though still your own country.

An integrated society is one in which members of different races and ethnicities live as indigenous members of their adopted country fully integrated into the laws and structures of the country but, of course, enjoying their own cultural traits. The Welsh and Scots have been an indigenous part of Great Britain for centuries, as far as I know.

You have nothing to apologise for.

There are doubtless hundreds of others with the same credentials but as they are not in the public eye, get nothing. I am opposed to anyone getting a going for doing their job, however good or however famous they may be. It diminishes the system for those who really do deserve some reward for charitable or voluntary works.

I remember my boss at the Post Office decades ago ruing the fact that his time had come for his MBE. He would rather have had another £200 per year – yes it was that long ago!!
