Can’t disagree with any of that, Linc.:(

Marshalls. Refurbishing and modification. Coningsbys Canberras were also delivered there for conversion from B.6’s to B.15 etc. I used to get trips down in the Anson TX173to pick up the ferry crews.

    John

Ah, Marshalls in those days, so still doing pretty much the same job or has that finished with all the cuts?

Your very final sentence should surprise no one. In these cases do interested parties have the right to appeal?

As I thought – older than me, but only just………;) My grandson thinks I’m old so that’s fine by me. I don’t think he knows about the “elderly”…..

I was talking about much more than just one-parent families. Except in the case of widowhood, they do only have themselves to blame. Who else?

One reason is the obvious anti-terror one (and preventing recce by air for ground-based terrorists) but another reason is the prevention of ambush advertising (Ballooons, towed banners, airships etc) – the restrictions on advertising around the Olympic venues to only IOC approved sponsors is actually quite draconian.

    …and that’s not the only draconian demand! But that’s for another thread……….

I’ve never much liked the rather coy word elderly. If I am judged to be old, then so be it!;)

My response to your question is that I only have a limited expereince of what goes on outside these shores to make a sensible comment. However the big difference I have seen is that, in general, in those European countries I know well, the family is a much more significant entity. And with that goes the fact that old people are cared for as a part of the extended family in a way which has long gone here. There are state facilities but in some cases perhaps no better than ours.

I strongly believe that the breakdown of the family unit, the huge increase in single parent families, the large decrease in the perceived value of marriage and the loss of interest in the old are the root causes of many of our social problems.
