Your last sentence is probably very true. However there are things about 21st century life which some older people and some younger as well, will find less agreeable than in earlier years. Another thread has already drifted on to this topic.

I don’t happen to believe that Britain has been “great” for a very long time although it has certainly been “united” until recent years, in law if not in spirit! If I am being as objective as possible I would sum up the key difference I feel between now and the fifties, when I was growing up, is that in general social interaction is charmless and again in general there is little sense of responsibility but plenty of demand for rights.

I also believe that we were better policed, better educated and better cared for.

🙁 There will always be someone ready to exploit others. Personally I am relieved that there may never be a remake.
