The Village Idi – all of that makes a lot of sense, except you final paragraph. I am not sure that that is true, to be honest. There is a media driven upwelling of sympathy for “our boys” when coffins return but then I think the military is forgotten much of the time.

This government has done nothing to promote the causes we are fighting for nor the servicemen who are doing the fighting. And because of the whole mismanagement of the Iraq affair from both political and military points of view the public’s view is prejudiced and jaundiced.

The airport is in chaos and clogged to saturation point but at least the Clintons and Banky-WhatsMoons can get in, in order to contribute precisely nothing to the appalling situation.

Good for him but unfortunately others who give it a go might not either be as fit, or as able, or be blessed with such cowardly unarmed attackers. Mind you he will probably be accused of assault by a bag of cans!!

The classic story last week was of the school which closed because the playground was not safe so the children had the day off throwing snowballs and sledging in the local park just down the road. Pathetic. I wonder if parents and staff would be so submissive to school closure if the system in some US states was adopted where days lost to closure are added on at the end of term thereby reducing the length of the holiday.

Despite everything the aid, as so often, does not seem to be getting through to where it is needed. Let’s hope that now the US is getting the distribution sorted out it really will start moving to help those who so desperately need it.

I suppose the lack of response is because there is saturation media coverage and the news and information is changing hourly so that comment of a general nature becomes a bit superfluous. We all know what we all feel about it.:(
