As I pointed out earlier it is the government’s policy on renewable energy, which has resulted in the even steeper increases in energy prices in recent years, than would otherwise have occurred. Whether or not they donate millions in foreign aid, that is not relevant to the price of energy.

I am certainly not denying the advantages of the Kindle – just saying it’s not for me. And downloading books doesn’t interest me because the pleasure of a book is searching for it, feeling it, handling it, examining it and then buying it and reading it.

One of my real pleasures is browsing book shops and stalls, when I get the chance, and finding something to enjoy. I buy paperbacks in a local second-hand shop if I just want a quick novel to read and then take them back to the shop next time I visit.

When I was travelling in the Balkans and Turkey in the early 60s the Air Mail edition of the Daily Telegraph was a godsend!!

Much as though I dislike the idea I imagine it is inevitable. I don’t read papers for news anyway but for comment and features. Personally I don’t enjoy reading anything on a screen other than emails and I would never entertain a Kindle but I know they are selling like hotcakes – I know you have one – and I will mourn the loss of the conventional book, of which I have a rather good library.

Just remember that around 11% plus of your electricity bill is added to subsidise “green energy”. And additional stealth taxes add even more to both electricity and gas bills. Without all of these we would be paying far less than we do!!:mad:

If that is the case, in their opinion, then I am heartily gratified to learn that things are many times better in those two South American republics than I ever thought and better than much of what is written about them.
