Indeed – why has that never been addressed? Of course we can cover the country with them – around 50,000 should do the job. And probably only take 20 years or so to build. Great idea – I don’t think.

Alternative methods certainly have merit and it is a pity more time is not being committed to them at the expense of turbine obsession.

What is quite clear and as confirmed by a parliamentary report is that unless someone takes a major reality check and we either pedal back on our ridiculously unattainable emmission targets and quickly develop new conventional and nuclear power stations we will simply not be able to produce our energy needs by 2023-2025 and will be tied to imports from wherver we can buy what we will need.

That’s a good point however I am not sure that it is convincing for two reasons. Firstly I doubt that the amounts of money were large given the multi-billion figures being dealt with on a monthly basis and secondly, as he pointed out, NOTW represented 1% of News Corporation’s business employing 53,000 people globally.

Wind turbines are an utter anathema to me. We have all been taken for one great big ride and we are all paying far more than we need for our electricity because of the subsidies paid to the generators to persuade them to build and operate them. and assuming the current plans of that idiot Huhne are implemented our fuel bills will increase hugely in the next decade. And we will still run out of electricity around 2024/5. Bear in mind that for every wind farm you need part of a conventional power station so that you still have power when the wind doesn’t blow. So they will never replace conventional power generation.
