Hi Glen – thats true but there are 9 40Ks away on “rotational operational storage” (kept operational and rotated with others in the fleet). Soo we will be able to rock up and fly our pick away and the boys there can even warm it up before we fly it home!!!!!!

    Kindest regards

    Hi

I hope so too but careful fellows – so far we only have evidence of 10 rounds and “parts” so it probably is as well to wait a while . I know anything is possible but a rebuild from 10 rounds?. Still an exciting development.

    Hi Turbo NZ

Lets form a syndicate through Classic wings and get a Warbird F111 flying when they retire them !!!!

I bet we would get apron space at air shows or else !!!

PS I believe we were offered some Ravens when they went out but we didn’t take them on along with Cobra gunships and A10 Thunderbolts – we only took them up on the standard F111s

    Kindest regards

    Hi Stormbird 262

    Good Post

As far as flat tyres go Museums traditionally use axel jacks to carry the weight of airframes – usually on the inside if the wheel so as not to be as noticeable.

I share your keeness to see aircraft flying but the fact remains that aircraft – especially older aircraft are valuable and rare and the modern trend toward the construction of replicas / total rebuilds satisfies most people – how much of the average Spitfire rebuilds of the last few yerars is original material?

As for the Canadian Mossie – keep her on the ground – get a Bowser truck, some ammo belts, bombs and rockets or whatever and every now and then burn some oil in a saucepan and stick it nearby to smell correct etc – you get the idea!!!! – then you will have some idea of what it looked like not some sort of artifical stuffed toy hanging from the ceiling.

    Kindest regards

    Hi

This is all a bit subjective .

The new display hall at the AWM in Canberra has their mosquito in level flight with a platform around it and it leaves me a little cold – it is not in any sort of context and just sits there like a preverbial (the really disturbing thing is that people can easilly touch it – which they frequently do). I much prefer the hanger based approach as in Yorkshire or even the way the Duxford IWM machine was displayed even though it was a little crowded. Placing it in a hanger with an imaginatve display environment adds a lot to the viewing experiance such as displays at Wigram RNZAFM in New Zealand – A real little gem of a place and getting better all the time.

What needs to happen to all Museums is a lot of attention in the planning phase –
    1) What are you trying to achieve
    2) What do customers value and appreciate
    3) What is the context of the display and the aircraft(what is the aircraft and what environment should it be displayed in as a result)

    My thoughts.

    Kindest regards

Hi yes I get to see a few of these every year but it is the nightime spectacle that gets me fired up – I don’t think I have seen it done anywhere else at night – the extra aspect last night was the dumping of the flares as part of the display – WOW – I was right under it sitting in my own backyard !!!

    Hi All

Something to keep an eye out for is that a “lifestyle” program produced in Melbourne recently displayed these “fantastic ” new tables /desks made out of aircraft wing tips and horizontal stabilizers. The ones on the program were DC3 but they said that “others” were available. They were getting $15,000.00 for the larger ones so it would be some incentive for some B*&%&$D to go into business – I might add I think the best place for a wingtip is ..on the end of a wing Doh!

I am in no way suggesting that the manufacturer of the products on the show uses anything but new build or properly sourced parts but it might have given someone an idea?

    Hi Dave

No the one being restored A59-96 will not fly again it is being restored for static – I don’t know if they even have wings for it. I will check

The RAAF Museum example crash landed near Richmond quite a long time ago and was repaired but didn’t fly again – the policy there now is that they don’t fly aircraft that they don’t have duplicates of so that may be the reason – or it may have not been repaired to airworthy standard.

For a little while in Australia we could have had a formation flight of a Hudson Loadstar and Ventura but they never got together – Now the Loadstar is in NZ and the Ventura is grounded – pity.

There are two other Venturas A59-73 in Darwin as noted and another also recovered from Bamaga ( I forget the Sn ) which is being restored to go to the local airport terminal. There cpould be others but I am unaware of them.

    Thats what I know
