Due to health and safety restrictions aircraft tours put on hold until next year…but it will happen…
I am sorry if this date clashes with Shuttleworth/Bruntingthorpe/Grandma’s 76th birthday party…it’s the 5th or not at all this year (plus the 11th clashes with the OFMC Tiger Squadron Meet at Duxford – don’t want to be in the Astra watching Dambuster when we could be watching Ray and the Boys in the Breitlings…) I have begged, pleaded, grovelled, and even tried being cute to get this day organised, so please don’t all jump on me if you don’t like the date or are disappointed about the aircraft tours (I am disappointed about the tours as I had the go ahead months back to do them and when it came down to the nitty gritty, people kept putting obstacles in my way…grrrrrrrrr!)
I hope as many of you can come as possible…and I look forward to seeing you all on the day 🙂

Yep…fantastic run and break from the Breitling boys 🙂 That’s the second time TD248 has “joined” the Breitlings this year…I think she fits in nicely (MH434 and TD248 are two of my very favourite Spitfires…the other is BM597)
~Waggling her fluffy stick and heading off to polish some Spitfires ;)~
Bob…very sorry to hear about your experience at the airshow…would you care to e-mail me a summary of what happened and I will pass it on to those concerned (or I can e-mail you the name/s to contact directly…)
And as for inconsiderate s****…some guy in the Flypast/F.O.D enclosure yesterday decided it wasn’t enough to stand up to video the show, he had to stand on his chair as well and block the view of those of us behind him…GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Fortunately one of the F.O.D’s bods came and asked him to sit down before I inserted his video camera where the sun don’t shine… :p 😡

I also vote for the Hendon Vulcan as the one which will last the longest. The Duxford machine was not outside for very long, but that is no guarantee of its future well-being – some senior people at Hendon have openly criticised the enviromental conditions under which Duxford aircraft are kept when compared with their own.
I would take what Hendon staff say about Duxford staff and aircraft with a pinch of salt if I were you…

Born in Cambridge, lived in Wyton for the first couple of years…then the small village of Whissendine in the smallest county, Rutland until I went to university in Canterbury…then back to Cambridge (well Duxford but then you all know that :)) a couple of years ago.

So very sorry for your loss Paul… Like Bob, I waved to your brother and Bill as they taxied past me…they both looked so happy…I shall remember them in formation with the Sea Hurricane, Nimrod and Gladiator doing what they loved.

Hey Bigglesworth…those film numbers look familiar to me 😀 😀 😀 …particularly seeing as I have just sent them down to London in the last hour 😉
Hope all goes well, will try and juggle weekend plans to make it.

~ROFLMAO at Lancman, Kev35, DIGBY and warbirduk~
By 2040, I shall be in charge of Duxford…and Duxford will look like this…
Hanger 1 will house the very best of British war planes from the Bristol Fighter to the Eurofighter Typhoon…(and NONE will be suspended from the ceiling)…
Hangers 2 and 3 will still be home to the airworthy aircraft, including Hendon’s Tiffie, Battle and Defiant…swopped with the Director of Hendon for a Des O’ Conner LP and a bag of chips (seems like a fair deal given Black 6 and others…)
Hanger 4 will house the “Dame Ashley Collection”, featuring my favourite aircraft…all airworthy of course…this will include Spitfires MH434, TD248 and BM597… a Hurricane…the TSR.2…a Lysander…Mosquito…and Hunter…:)
Hanger 5 will house the RAF Memorial Flight which will include 10 Spitfires, 5 Hurricanes, 2 Meteors, 2 Vampires, 2 Hunters and 2 Javellins…the Harrier will not be eligible for inclusion in the Flight as it will still be in service, 80 years after it first joined the front line (well like Kev said, do you really hold much hope of the Eurofighter making it into service before 2040? :p)
The American Air Museum as we know it will have been knocked down and a replica WWII hanger built in it’s place with plenty of room for all the aircraft (again without having to resort to stringing any up from the ceiling)…
The current contents of the Land Warfare Hall will have been emptied out and flogged off…think I’ll bung Concorde in here alongside the Comet and Britannia…
I will buy the field next to the LWH and build a huge complex there to house the civil aircraft collection…so there will be no more whinging about aircraft left outside to rot…
Food and drink at Duxford will be excellent quality and affordable too…
And TFC’s P-51 Princess Elizabeth will finally take to the skies again…
All complete fantasy I know, but hey! :p
Ashley
:p 😀 :p
Thanks for this Skipper 🙂
