There already is a Lightning flying off the coast of Britain, it’s a few miles south and is painted black.

Thanks for posting that picture Mark, I’d got some horrible visions of it’s condition in my mind, glad it’s not true. I hope the new owner gets some use out of it, from memory it’s not that bad an aircraft, needs a little bit of TLC in places, poor old thing seems to have spent most of it’s restored life in storage.

I think the only way of achieving something like this in the UK now is to find an owner who is prepared to take you on a cost sharing flight, under CAA rules it is illegal to take a ‘fare paying’ passenger for a trip in an aircraft unless it has a public transport certificate. Harvard G-BKRA which operated from Shoreham used to have a public cat however I’m not sure it still does.

I guess my earliest memories were from 73 onward living on the final approach for East Midlands. However all I really remember were Viscounts and the Red Arrows Gnats on an annual basis. I guess there were all sorts of other goodies floating about such as Argosies etc. Was the rolls Royce Spitfire at East Midlands between 73 and 78?
Spent a year in North Wales close to Sealand after this and I’m told I must have seen TD248, although I don’t remember that either, ironic that 10 years later I helped off load it after it’s journey from Sealand to Essex.
From 79 onwards I grew up listening to and watching Wattishams Phantoms, didn’t appreciate them at the time and feel it would be nice to see one again.
From 84 onwards I started going to Duxford every weekend and it all kind of went downhill from there. Oh and the first aircraft I worked on………….the Viscount.

Keep all the cars out of central London so a TV company can dig a big hole in the ground.

Can’t be too hard on Kermit Weeks for the state of the Lancaster, having a hanger collapse on it ten years or so ago did nothing for it’s chances. I guess with so many projects all these things take time, not to mention money.
As for the Mosquito I understand the humidity of the Florida climate did nothing for it’s future.
