Fantastic shots and good to see the Swiss Emabraer in there.
Bmused let me tell you having flown a few time in recent months that the airline is better than it has ever been. Crew are great and planes are comftable. When you flew from Scotland you flew on a 737,the A320s now have leather interiors and the the older ones are being retro fitted. If you want a meal go to a restaurnat that isnt part of air travel anymore. If you dont like it tough. The new EI is better at least on the short haul routes the long haul product still needs some sorting out.
Aer Lingus is far from tacky but I cant change your opinion. As Ryanair and Easyjet get bigger BA are going to find themselves in even bigger trouble and WW knows that so hes just getting the airline ready for the future. I doubt he is going to gut business class on all routes.
Ive seen a number of prgrammes where pilots forget to deploy more flaps. One case study was Air France who insist that pilots report to a specific person to report any such incidents. Im not sure if other airlines have this system. The case was 2 737 pilots reporting to the guy who was in charge of incidents relating to 737 incidents. They were on approach to Tegal, they landed and reliased that the required flaps hadnt been used.
If Alitalia do go bust I would expect a new airline to be formed like Swiss or SN Brussels. Weather they would keep the MD-80s is another question.
Pilots forgetting to use more flaps isnt uncommon but I doubt that was the case here.
Im very dissapointed. Youve posted pics from MAN every day this week and I havnt seen a single Swiss. LOL
OneLeft I said I think it would be a shame to see an airline from any other country to operate the routes becasue of how small the market is. The British market is gigantic in comparison to the Irish market. If a law was to be passed tomorrow that said only one airline could operate domestic British services than I would rather a British airline get it than Ryanair. As well Ryanair only operate a few domestic flights from STN most of their flights are international. If bmi want to come in and operate international flights they are more than welcome. Ive nothing against the British and dont want to start a fight either.
AndrewM as Im sure you are aware Aer Arann have already tried DUB-BHD and it simply didnt work. The train only take an hour or 2 and even the road network between Dublin and Belfast in one of the best anywhere in the world. The new road is simply amazing and no airline is going to be able to compete succesfully with it.
Also the goverment did give money to BA and RE to operate these routes but that is part of the tender so if they win again then they will get the money.
bmi star any airline who has regional aircraft would love those routes because they are very profitable. Not because of high loads or yields far from it but the Irish goverment wants them routes to be operating so they pay the airline to cover the costs of operating the routes.
Ive seen 5 bmi aircraft in Dublin at once before. 4 A321s including the old star allaince colours. I think one had gone tech and there was a substantial delay on the other 2 and the 5th was a Fokker 100 when bmi still operated the EMA-DUB route.
The initial plan was to axe this route on the 8th of May. It has proved very succesful and due to a staff dispute they have been forced to leave it.
I dont meen to be rude or anything but has you got seeing those aircraft at LHR have anything to do with them operating 2 daily 767s????
You said you seen 7 KLM aircraft at LHR at once. Im not doubting you but why were 7 of them there you be lucky to see 7 bmi aircraft at LHR sometimes during the day.
I honestly cannont see bmi getting these routes. Aer Arann have built up a great reputation in the Irish market.
The goverment will pay about €3 million to the winner and they will operate the routes but be warned they are far from high in demand. A recent newspaper article claimed the goverment were paying €300+ to Aer Arann for every passenger travelling on the DUB-NOC route simply becasue loads were dreadful.
My personal opinion is that Aer Arann should operate these route because they are an Irish airline and it would be a shame to have a British airline operating them. We shall see what happens.
I also think a KIR-LHR service would flop because Ryanair are operating from KIR to STN pretty succesfully and I dont think they would sit back and watch bmi start a London route and bmi wouldnt have the same level of connections from KIR as they would from DUB.
Ye I think somebody said that KLM operate 2 flight a day from AMS from LHR with 767s.
Ye I belive bmi operated 707 years and years ago Ive seen a pic of one of them in JFK then again it was BMA not BMI
The first A310 sounds like AMC aviation but they operate A310s.
The A330 sounds like EgyptAir but they dont have A319s.
