Just watched Bomber Crew, and have to say,I think it’s going to shape up as good as Spitfire Ace.

Just one question though.Where was Granston Lodge?

Sadly it clashes with my motor club’s annual presentation night in Scunthorpe, and as I’m up for an award in the modified car class,it has to take priority.

The fact that I’ll be stopping in the hotel, and consuming possible large amounts of alcoholic beverage with my meal, have nothing whatsoever to do with it. 😀

    Gutted that the 2 clash.

As someone else who lives in Yorkshire,I recently read Yorkshire Airfields in the Second World War by Patrick Otter, one of a multi series of books by Mr.Otter, about airfields around the country during wartime.

It details every airfield in Yorkshire, and what they got up to,but doesn’t really have a great deal of post war information, but does give some great accounts of raids flown from them.

It’s available from most bookshops for about £12 new,but if you have problems locating a copy, then I will part with mine, which is virtually new,for about half of that plus P&P.

    I feel a Fawlty Towers moment coming on…… 😀

    Basil: ‘You started the war.’
    German guest: ‘No we didn’t.’
Basil: ‘Yes you did,you invaded Poland.’

And now someone wants us to apologise for the whole event? Am I missing something here?

Should we therefore ask the Germans to apologise for building the Trabant?
Should we ask the Germans to apologise for putting their towels on the sunbeds?
Should we ask the Germans to apologise for their women having hairy armpits?
Should we ask the Germans to apologise for their greatest sporting hero who has won the F1 championship 7 times?

Well, maybe the last one is ok,but if we were to ask them to apologise for things that we thought were unsuitable, what do you think their response would be?

    How about,up yours British swine?

I think the whole idea of us apologizing, should be treat with the contempt it deserves, and if there were to be any apologizing to be done, then it’s THEY who should be doing it.After all,the allies lost 1000’s of lives, unnecessarily, because one man had lost the plot.

Definitely the highlight of the show for me personally,as was the fact that I spoke to Muriel Pavlow in hangar 4.

    However………..

It was my first Duxford, and I thought the show a tad disappointing really.I did a 300 mile round trip from Yorkshire for it,and thought the Elvington show was better, with more aircraft available, including my personal favourite PA474.

I have to say though, you guys on here have taken some fantastic pictures, which are a credit to you.It was difficult to know which thread to attach my comments to.

Finally.I did think the exit from the car park was a farce,as there was no-one there to direct traffic, resulting in cars just doing as they pleased, unlike when you entered, when there were more personnel than you could shake a stick at.

    Thanks for that Geoff.

I presume CCB will have a stand to purchase the book, and if so,what does it cost?

For me,F1 went downhill after Senna’s death.Never has there been a driver that was capable of winning races based on sheer hard work and skill.(And I remember watching that fateful day.)

Today’s breed have everything in the car for them, all that is needed is a device to steer it for them. But that technology is even in the sport I used to compete in,and that’s rallying.Gone are the days when everything in the car was mechanical,ie:gearboxes, diff etc.No computer controlled devices then.Any decisions on problems/progress,were made by the driver. Now they’re told when to pit.

But people will say,’That’s progress.’ To which I say,’B******s.’ Todays ‘drivers’ are nothing more than overpaid dummies, who sit in a car that’s controlled by those on the pit wall. It’s signed it’s own death warrant.

The loss of F1 in this country will certainly not be a great loss to me.Good riddance to it I say.But then it shows that it’s purely a business,I mean, the guy who has pulled the plug is an Englishman, you’d think that a GP in this country would be the last thing he’d want to get rid of.

Sorry for the delay in replying guys.

The flypast went very well actually. She arrived some 15 minutes early, and went past at 300 feet.

We got 3 circuits out of her,and a lot of people enjoyed the moment.

If you want to see a Lancaster, then PA474 is flying over Blyton in Lincolnshire tomorrow at 12.30pm.

Many thanks for the info guys.

I have written a short piece for our commentary team, which is just enough for to be said after the first circuit, before the second circuit,if that makes sense.

The idea was to let the crowd know a little history about Lancasters in general, and also what PA474 does at other times, including the number of times it was airborne in 2003.Other info included how many were built, where it is based, what engines are used, top speed, the infamous Dambusters etc.

But for me personally,it will be the sense of occasion, the sweet sound of the Merlins, and the fact that thanks to some information from other individuals, and you know who you are,I managed to get permission to ‘use’ what is in my opinion, the most beautiful vintage aircraft in the world today.

Happy? You bet I am. 😀
