Pass Lissett regularly, and as yet haven’t ‘popped in’ to see what’s left of it. Mind you it is difficult with a 44t HGV.
Nice to see that he ran a small museum at Bletchley as well.
Another hero gone.
Bless you Sir.
Those that are going will know what it means.

My pleasure Moggy.
As we all know, the tail end Charlie is a position that nobody would have wanted, so to survive, and live this long, well……
Respect Sir.

Bizarrely for me, when I made the visit to Bayeux with the wife and 2 extremely boisterous 14 and 9 year old daughters 7 years ago, I have never seen kids so quiet.
Very moving even for them.
Perhaps I should have gone more often. 😀
Moggy,
If you’ve never been you have a choice. The British Cemetery at Bayeux is very simple and very moving. And do not miss the Pegasus Bridge Museum at Benouville between Caen and Ouistreham. Or the remains fo the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches or ……
You need a week really!
+1.
And a visit to Cafe Gondree next to the new Pegasus Bridge is a must as well for a bier. (The original bridge is a mere 100 metres away next to the museum.)
Now owned by the daughters of Madame and Monsieur Gondree, or at least it was when I went 7 years ago. It’s like a time warp inside, and no photograhpy is allowed.
Anyone know where I can find the 2012 dates again, as the link is not available now?
Interesting to note that I have requested 2 flypasts this year, and while the dates/times/places are listed, I’ve yet to receive official confirmation.
A friend of mine has also requested one, and likewise, no confirmation yet.
Parts of this was filmed last year at the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association members day at Coningsby i think
Yes it was.
Even though I delivered around 100,000 copies of the magazine to the various wholesalers around Liverpool/Preston and Bolton yesterday, I didn’t get to read a copy.
Got my usual free copy of the Daily Snail though.
Spoke to Parky a time or two at LLA day. Thouroughly decent chap.
Delighted that he’s received a gong from Her Maj.
As a spotty 17 year old, I used to go to Tranwell on a Sunday with loads of other bikers, to ‘tear up’ a strip of the airfield. Back then, I didn’t know it as an airfield, merely a piece of land to run up and down at warp factor 10 on my motorbike with like minded individuals.
It’s only when I got into my 40’s and started to look into the heritage of former WW2 airfields, that I came to realise the significance of them around the country.
It’s such a crying shame that the locals to Tranwell were not receptive to the idea of a museum, and that before long, history will be erased in the minds of people that live near these old places.
May the ‘Force’ be with both him and his brother! 😉
I was stood a mere 20 feet away from him when he landed, and was watching the footage that was shot on a small monitor with a member of the BBC crew, just inside the hangar door.
According to the BBC man, it will be ahown in 2012 around the time Her Majesty The Queen unveils the Bomber Command memorial.
I would guess that the reason it’s called the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association, is due to the number that were based in the county during WW2, so they kind of go hand in glove.
I personally prefer the current title, as in abbreviated form it trips off the tongue easier. I would think that BBMFS would be quite a mouthful.
