We heard Pakistan is going to have indigenous Predator cause US is not willing to sell. Wasn’t there a rumour that US would assist in developing? Those GBU12 are part of the Reaper/Predator. I bet the Hellfire would have been more valuable.

About the numbers. Well, you cannot blaim the Pakistani. They have seen the US walking out when they needed them the most. The most important part of getting US weapons is probably securing spare parts for the moment you need them. We see its biggest neighbour arming up and there is no suprise what a smaller more vulnerable nation does.

No, this massive Package is for use with our Block 52s and MLU upgrades.

Yes, a smaller air force should ensure every sortie in war counts hence heavu investment in US and home made (RAAD, Babur) PGMs,

So, PAF received in the nineties a copy of the MiG-21 of the fifties? That’s odd. What’s more, some of them should be just 10 years in service, so indeed not old at all. Why would PAF want to get rid of them so early, one might wonder?

Of course, SeAF wouldn’t buy all of them, but they would probably ask for some of the latest airframes, not the earliest.

Not odd, many air forces are receiving F-15s, Jaguars etc. These are 70s designs.

They are being replaced by JF-17s. First F-7s then Mirage ROSEs are being phased out. In fact PAF now has 40 surplus A-5s that JF-17 has replaced.

The newer F-7s have plenty of life left. PAF may offer them for sale. The only problem maybe Pakistan is very pro Bosnia-Herogovina.

How many years have they been flying and how many flying hours do they have left?

First F-7s were delivered in early 90s and last ones in late 90s. So certainly not old. Not sure of hours on the frame though.

In about 1-2 years there will be 100-150 F-7P and soon F-7PG airframes available from PAF.

    Advantges include

    1) Relativleycheap to make NATO compatable as already have Grifo Radar and AIM-9M

    2) Serb pilots know the MIG-21well

    3) Ideal for policing role

    4) PAF will certainly not want alot of money

    High-level Pak-US dialogue begins on 18th

WASHINGTON: The US capital, always a hub of political activity, is set to witness intense rounds of high-stake dialogue between Pakistani and US officials which will commence with the arrival of Pakistan navy chief, Admiral Noman Bashir on March 17.

Amiral Noman Bashir will begin top-level negotiations with the US officials in the Pentagon on March 18. Only days after the arrival of Admiral Bashir, chief of army staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is reaching Washington to hold very important dialogue with the US officials on the issue of regional security. Gen Kayani is expected to meet, among others, the US national security advisor Gen James Jones, secretary defence Robert gates, secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Admiral Mullen and ambassador Holbrooke. ISI chief Gen Shuja Pasha is also expected to join Gen Kayani in the dialogue with the top US officials.

In the last week of March foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be in Washington with a high-level delegation to lead Pak-US strategic dialogue. The US side is expected to be led by secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

Then, in the second week of April, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani will arrive here to attend the Nuclear Security Summit, which is being hosted by US President Obama. Forty-three (43) heads of state or governments are expected to attend the summit. Prime Minister Gilani is due to arrive here on April 11. Besides attending the summit he is expected to meet President Obama. Top Pakistani and US officials are also working to arrange a meeting between the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Gilani though it is not confirmed yet whether such meeting will take place.

A US official said on condition of anonymity: “I hope it takes place in a good atmosphere because we are really working hard not only to get it done but also to make it meaningful.” Some officials also indicated that the prime minister might go to New York for a day as well.

The fact it is a lady should actually not have anything to do with the matter. PAF now has lady pilots as do many air forces. If a lady is very good then a very average male pilot got what he deserves…..

Dont forget these LGB top ups were excess US aid rushed to us. This does not form part of the MASSIVE package of JDAMs and LGBs we have ordered as part of the Block 52 deal. PAF (for an air force its size), will have precision munitions up to its eyeballs…

    According to DSCA

500 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) Guidance Kits: GBU-31/38 Guided Bomb Unit (GBU) kits; 1,600 Enhanced-GBU-12/24 GBUs; 800 MK-82 500 pound General Purpose (GP) and MK-84 2,000 pound GP bombs; and 700 BLU-109 2,000 pound with FMU-143 Fuze.

The exercis will be good to see how our integration of F-16, JF-17s, AWACs and refuellers work. In fact credit to PAF for doing such an ambitious exercise so quickly after the induction of so many assetts. The lessons learned will be invaluable in helping to refine tactics and doctrine with our new force multiplyers.

Pakistan navy test fires missiles, torpedoes

    2010/03/12

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday successfully test fired new missiles and torpedoes from ships, submarines and aircraft in the Arabian Sea, the navy announced.

“Pakistan navy fleet today tested its fire power in the north Arabian Sea to assess lethality, precision and efficacy of its weapon system,” it said.

The navy did not disclose range or technical details but said “this included successful firing of a variety of missiles and torpedoes from the ships.”

The tests included anti-surface missiles from an F-22P frigate, acquired recently from China, air-to-surface missiles from P-3C aircraft and sub surface-to-surface missiles from Agosta 90B submarines that originate from France.

“While reassuring Pakistan navy’s commitment of defending the motherland, this strike capability would also send a message of deterrence to anyone harbouring nefarious designs against Pakistan,” the statement said.

South Asian rivals India and Pakistan — which have fought three wars, two of them over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir — routinely carry out missile tests since both demonstrated nuclear weapons capability in 1998.
