I used to do loadsheets for the Scanair DC10 fleet which, I have learned thanks to people on this forum, have migrated to Premiair/Airtours and on to MyTravel. So I am glad to know that, at least for a short time to come, they are still around.
Ren, Air Ecosse closed down in mid 80s and the fleet eventually stood at around 12 EMB110s, 2 Twin Otters, 1 HP Herald ( leased)
1 Learjet and SH330 and 360 aircraft. Before the demise the flagship route for us was from Dundee to Heathrow with the SH360 aircraft! Although by far the most routes were flown from ABZ. I think the only regular overseas routes were to SVG, BFS and DUB, the rest being domestic…Happy Days especially the rivalry with Loganair.
Saw one just the other day at high level over my place, I think on a heading to MAN. Great planes, I shall miss them.
Great pics Ren, especially that Tu154! I used to work at GLA sometimes when I was employed by an airline called Air Ecosse….do you remember them? We used to fly quite a large scheduled network in Scotland using EMB110s and Twin Otters in a lovely maroon, white and gold livery.
galdri, wasn’t it an Icelandic carrier Loftleidir that pionerred cheap travel across the Atlantic back in the 60s with CL44 passenger aircraft and later DC8 63s?
At Last!!! Well done EZY!
Nice pics. I was in the area of both Mildenhall and Lakenheath in my work yesterday and like you saw nothing move, a local resident told me that yesterday was a national holiday in the US. That usually explains lack of activity at these two bases. Although I did see a KC135 land at Mildenhall at around 1230.
World Air Routes DVDs are not bad. I get mine mail order from Airtrans at EMA…Very friendly staff, great stock and well worth a visit if you’re in the area. For sheer quality and variety however I don’t think you’ll beat the products from Avion Video/DVD, the sound and picture quality is stunning and they have a great website http://www.avionvideo.com.
Nice one Adrian, glad you had a good time. Reading the report was almost like being there again! We were lucky I guess in that we had the A310 both ways but cabin service and food wise I don’t think there is much difference between these two carriers.
Good points. I have to say that my favourite PIA scheme was the one worn by the B720s and Tridents with the stars on the tail and full airline name on the fuselage…although I still like the current one. Air India will meddle with their scheme at their peril I think.
Only had an hour or so to spare today “Trail watching” so my tally is not great…but here goes anyhow:
LOT B767
bmi Baby 737-300 x2
Helios B737-400?
Hola B737-300
Iceland Express B737-300
Asiana B747-400F
Air Plus A310
Swiss MD11
BA A320
SAS MD80Srs
SAS B737-600
Thos Cook A320
Aer Lingus 737
Lufthansa MD11F
Streamline SD360
VLM F50
AIA B747-200F
The Helios, Hola, Asiana, Iceland Express, Air Plus, Cook and Streamline were all local low level to and from STN. The rest were High level “trailers”……Love these new binos!
For me the only saving grace is the retention of the hammer and sickle symbol……Sorry guys but for me the rest is drivel! Was it the same team of “artists” that designed Ryanairs?? Very “ho hum”!
Mine will go directly to our local Oxfam bookstore.
You’re kidding right??? Both the schemes of AI and PIA have become part of the national identities of the two nations concerned. Witness the national outcry in India at the time that AI tried to introduce that awful “corporate mess” of a livery a few years back…bland or what!! As for describing the current PIA scheme as a “green belly and three stripes near the neck of the aircraft” I think that is way too simplistic a description and overlooks the national and cultural aspects which I think is far too often overlooked these days. There are too many bland and two dimensional “schemes” that mean and seem to represent nothing blotting the aerial landscape nowadays and I hope that these two carriers don’t add to the pile. I might be old fashioned but I think that the current AI scheme is a work of art and is recognised all over the world, you’d have to work damn hard to achieve that again with current design trends.
Good news for PIA….Would have been nicer to see an A330 in that lovely scheme but I guess you can’t win ’em all.
