Hi cebro
Im glad your taking in the Kent Battle of Britain Museum Hawkinge you are going to need best part of a day to get around this Gem dont forget the Bristol Blenheim project is also on show, there are also some great Museums being put forward above.
What a great idea for a road trip please keep us in touch with your journey.
Hi Creaking Door
Like you say i would imagine that it is pretty rare engine whether its Genet or Mongoose.
The more i attempt to measure from the centre of the prop shaft to the centre of the master rod gudgeon it comes out different as attempting to do this with a rule is difficult to get its true reading, as the gudgeon pin hole is as you can see is slightly covered any suggestions on getting the correct measurement?
How similar is that thanks for sending the photo, so anyone have a final verdict or suggestions who to ask for help?
Looking a little more accurate now I have a better measuring tool I would say it’s 2 inches from the centre of the prop shaft to the centre of the master rod gudgeon, sorry for the confusion, so would that make it Genet 1?
Interesting in regards to the Cheetah but I guess they are a part of the same family.
Just to throw a spanner in the works the throw is 2 and a half inches
Any ideas?
Hi
A few more photos as asked with a good old measuring aid, also some numbers on the weights
Hopefully this may help towards confirming its identity
Im having trouble finding a coke can will a dr pepper do?
Joking apart im have trouble uploading photos for some reason but will post with can at the ready as soon as im able.
Hi john
Thank you for coming back to the thread it appears you certainly no what your talking about, would these photos help? If not I’m taking it to work to clean the dust etc of it, I could take some better photos in day light.
Brad
I feel John aeroclub has found its identity as these two links below show images that are pretty close to mine

Hi John Aeroclub
Thank you for replying as im pretty stuck on this one, as the majority of the radials on the net do not appear to show the internals, i thought being a 5 cylinder engine it would help narrow it down.
The propeller shaft does look the same splinding as the Armstrong Siddeley Ganet
Not sure that this will help but i purchased it from an aero jumble in Peterborough.
Thanks for the advice, a lot of the corrosion appears to be medium so ill give that Deox c a go, will update the forum once complete, now for the hard bit identifying it.
Definatelty worth a look in next year at Crowland.
My first visit to Crowland after a 5.30 start, the aerojumble itself was set in nice country surroundings and farm buildings,i was made very welcome on arrival,in regards to the jumble itself, i personally came away very happy as i managed to get hold of a very nice genuine well used irvine jacket for a give away price, also a very early what i believe to be a 1920s era maybe earlier aircraft engine with con rods gears and bearings prop shaft spline, again a good price still researching this one, also 2 pairs of mark 11 flying goggles 22c/44 still in there boxes a Gee navigation whip aerial 10B/13178 complete with base and aerial mask stem that would of been fitted on the outside of Bomber aircraft, also a relic type D flying helmet all these items believe me were for give away prices, it was nice to see items at very reasonable prices, there were other bargains to be had an early pattern Sutton harness looked complete, missed out on that one though,Raf tunic and trousers with Pilot Wings again give away pricing. what looked to be a Mosquito tail wheel and tyre a rear under carriage leg not sure what from early aircraft wheels possibly Bi plane other tail wheels. there were a good selection of Wartime control grips flying goggles panel dials etc etc , a flying log book many many more items but had to then make a quick dash back to the South for the England game, still back home for 11.45 it was certainly a hot day for driving though Ian but i was buzzing all the way home.
I would say there was around ten stalls in all it was certainly a case of quality and not quantity, lets hope that this aerojumble that is still in its early days gets bigger and bigger that will make it better for sellers also, we need to keep supporting these guys, i for one will be back next year, well done to all involved also to the burger wagon for the cracking bacon roll.
Thank you for the above replies some good suggestions that i will look into over the next couple of days.
In regards to vacbs question whether port or starboard i really havent as yet worked it out as the relic is in a poor state but i will hopefully be able work it out over the next few days.
A good suggestion Bruce again another avenue to look at and interesting that the cable is Bowden.
Farlanairframes i do believe that it is a strong possibility that this aircraft had met its end near Greendown inn St Georges superfly near Cardiff Wales.
Brad.
The two images below may help as the first one shows the cable going through one of the holes from frame 12, so I would imagine the cable would of run from the front of the fuselage through frame 12 and beyond.
The second image shows the back of cable clip fastener.
Just to add the cable appears to attached (clipped) to the inner fuselage red photo, so may possibly not be the Sutton Harness cable.
Any ideas?
I will take a look at the Canopy Jettison Versuch.
