Hi Beachcomber
Thank you for the photo, im certainly a little confused in regards to the number or yours being D*220 79* * as far as i can work out up to now the DA940 is a Baracuda, Defiant11 or a WellingtonV1, as per Aneoracs reply no 3, so have you managed to find out what your blade may of fitted, or maybe that number cross references over,(sorry like i say im out of my depth on this one) but would like to find out as much as i can.
So was your blade in the photo covered in green paint also if so its come up pretty well with the Nitromors that you have previously suggested, if you dont mind me asking where would i be able to purchase a tin of this? also what sort of process did you use?
Many thanks again Brad.
Certainly looking in favour of the Baracuda as they do appear to have the 4 bladed set up, or is it not going to be as simple as that, or did the Defiant11 and Wellington have the 4 blade set up also?
Although currently i cant find any references to back this.
Not my field sorry.
Hi
Just searching in regard to two propeller blades i have, strangely mine have the same green paint as the above so i would imagine they are a part of the same family.
Going by justme which his has been cut straight and beachcombers that has been sculptured back to its original shape then there is mine that looks to of been sadly ripped of the hub but still has the bulk of the lower part of the blade, so it appears there were originally 4 to the set, my question is would this throw any light towards the identity of the aircraft, being a 4 blade prop, ie Barracuda, Defiant11 or Wellington V1.
There is the marking DA940 0n one of my prop blades with an (E) painted within a yellow circle.
Any propeller experts or help would be very much appreciated.
Hi
I know this is an old thread but i have acquired one of these blades mine looks identical bar it has the hub missing, the only number showing is the DA940 with a letter (E) encircled in yellow paint. ive been told it is from a fairey Barracuda but am i also right in thinking it could also been fitted to a Defiant 2 and a Wellington as above?
Also unfortunately it has been painted green in some places but still appears to have its black covering underneath where it is flaking also the yellow band on its tip, would anyone recommend a possible process in trying to salvage its original coating.
Many thanks as always in advance.
Sorry for late reply,
thank you for your input Ex Brat and ericmunk i will look into both avenues suggested now im back with my keyboard.
Would anyone else have suggestions in regard to the tyre sizes wheels etc?
I would imagine if they were post War that they would be early going by the Air Ministry marking that is located on one of the tyres.
I have 2 of these wheels that are joined by means of a wooden structure you can see this on the Facebook page (Factory stamps WW2) if you would like to see a photo.
Any help would be appreciated as always.
Thank you Trolly Aux and Rocketeer for your valued replies, if you do get a chance Rocketeer to see your listing it would be great to narrow the hub down if poss.
In regards to the encircled W or M and ideas what this might represent also the tyre size itself as i believe most fighters were 4.00 – 3.5 would anyone know what type of aircraft would the 4.95 – 3.5 of been fitted to, a possibility as Trolly Aux has said possible Defiant?
Nice P38 yoke
Out of my price range though
I see one at Kenley airfield at the weekend that was next to the Raf gliding school, sorry didnt get a photo.
first timer to Kenley have to say great surroundings for an aerojumble certainly felt the atmosphere of the airfields former self, surprised to see so much of the airfield still in place buildings blast pens etc.
The jumble itself was well worth the journey up from Kent some nice pieces to be had, come away well happy.
Roll on October for this up coming event, thanks to everyone involved.
Have to agree with FLY.Buys summing up of the Old Sarum event, i also enjoyed the day i say day as there is so much to see in and around the aerojumble itself, met some interesting people and sellers along the way and have to agree that the event is well organised and people friendly, i personally came away with a very nice used Luftwaffe flying helmet at what i would say was a bargain price, along with some other gems at very affordable prices, roll on the next Sarum event.
If the display of Gerard Muffets Hurricane has gone into storage like “Foray” has mentioned, then why couldnt it of been loaned to another museum for example the likes of “The Kent Battle of Britain Museum” at Hawkinge or similar, i appreciate it is in extremely fragile condition, but im sure with the right care it could be moved.
After all isnt this type of display all about remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
AND SHOULD NEVER BE HIDDEN
I believe that these were only fitted to the early Merlin’s probably one of the reasons why.
Hi John jhwebb1941
I have just left you a reply on my “Heinkel relics thread”
Its great to have someone on this thread who has actually worked on the film set itself and who was involved on the maintenance side of the aircraft that took part in the making of this epic film. it would be interesting to add any of your other stories and experiences in and around the film set itself if at all possible.
Certainly a great icon of an aircraft to of been lucky enough to work on, i can only dream.
Hi John
Thank you for your reply, thats very interesting in regard to yourself working on the film set itself as a airframe/engine mechanic on the Heinkels i bet you must have some fantastic memories and interesting stories to tell, there is currently a thread on this forum that is covering the making of the Battle of Britain film itself, it would be great if you can add your input thats if you havent already done so, i will send you the link shortly. i was at Tangmere museum last Saturday and in there 2nd hand book collection they had a book of the making of the Battle of Britain film that i thought i would purchase on the way out but you guessed it someone sadly beat me to it, but i will look out for it on ebay as looked very interesting to say the least.
In regard to the procedures check list i would love to have a copy of this so i can at to my film memorabilia that i have collected up to now as many others im a great fan of the film and Battle.
All the very best Bradley.
Ah i just see that you have already found the thread.
thanks Ian for clearing that up.
That prop was certainly a little to close for comfort.
