    Hi 69goatpgh

I just see your thread searching information on a Canadian Hurricane panel and wondered whether you had managed to get any further on your research?

As i have just acquired a replica panel with original instruments but unfortunately its missing some cockpit panel dials.
I appreciate it will be a tough task but i would very much like any help into identifying the correct instruments for his panel.

Any help by anyone would be very much appreciated.

Fort Perch Rock, here on the Wirral and home to the WWIG’s collection of aviation wreckology, is alive and well – in fact I was at meeting with the present owner today.

Well worth a visit and stacked full of stuff, the museum looks much the same as it has for the last 20-30 years but all the kit is well labelled and displayed. Only crit is the lights are a bit dim so, oddly as it may sound, take a torch with you!

    Anon.

Thank you Anon certainly looks worth the trip this will be on my 2017 hit list, may even fit in a trip to Anfield.

Will send a few photos (if aloud) after my visit.

No, in those far away days, Hawker1966, the film was in a little reel casette thingy. One had to wind it fully on when it was all used, carefully remove it and take your 12, 24 or 36 exposure film to the chemist and the wait a day or so for the results. Polaroid came out of the bottom of the camera but had no negatives.

Am I alone in finding it terribly depressing that there are actually people who don’t remember that?!

And, yes, I have hundreds upon hundreds of just the sort of images you are talking about Hawker1966. Many of them in the pre-memory stick storage system then in use; photo albums. 😀

I just about remember the wind on cameras as during the 70s i was just approaching my teens, strangely enough the camera with the self developer with photo developing are back doing there 2nd round, as i witnessed this type at my daughters 21st party, technology appears taking us back some 40 plus years that must be a first.

Ref the photos dead jealous as the Archeology side is my passion, i visit many a Museum but very few show photos of the digs with the relics, but i appreciate space is very tight, i often thought a museum could show a process of the archeology side as im sure a lot of people would be interested in the process from the start of the research through to the actual dig including machinery etc.

Have to admit i thoroughly enjoyed the Harry Harris War Digs series.it gives a good insight of the whole process.

Great photo thank you for sharing.

There dosnt appear sadly to be to many photos of actual archeology digs when you think of the thousands that took place, mind you back in the 70s wasnt it the type of camera where the photo came out the bottom of the camera itself, polaroid from what i can remember.

Ive often thought of venturing up to the museum at Fort Perch Rock, but coming from Kent would anyone know if its worth the trip, i mainly like the aviation relic side of museums.

Just to add throughout the Summer and Winter Months i regularly visit aviation Museums throughout the UK including the likes of Hawkinge (The Kent Battle of Britain Museum) The Wings museum. De Havilland, Brenzett, Shoreham in Kent, The Thames side Aviation Museum, Fenland,Norfolk and Suffolk aviation Museum,North Weald,Duxford, Carpetbagger,East Kirby, Scampton,Newark,The Sywell aviation Museum,Cosford. and only today a visit to the Tangmere museum.

I visit these at least once per year with more visits to the likes of Hawkinge,The Wings Duxford and lastly Hendon where i would go at least 6 times. but somehow its currently lost its appeal although there are some fantastic exhibits the one that personally appealed to me more than any other was the Battle of Britain Hall.

I know that things move on but for me to take away this hall is tragic to say the least.

Lets just hope like i have said previous there is something put in its place to represent the Battle of Britain. (but it certainly wont be the scale of the Hall)

I’m glad the BoB hall is having a revamp but also sad that we seem to have no large aviation museum exhibit for the battle now.
While the aircraft in the BoB hall were not `accurate` they did give a flavor of what the battle was about.
Is this move to cement Cosford as being a leading aviation museum?
Loosing some of the large airliners and transports has certainly undermined it as an attraction (for me).

I couldn’t agree more hampden98, its certainly in my opinion lost one of its if not its biggest attractions.

Like you say the previous Battle of Britain hall certainly gave a presence of the Battle.

Surely the Raf Museum Hendon will be putting something in its place to tell the air Battle of the Summer of 1940. i guess we will just have to wait and see.
I for one sadly wont be visiting as often as normal.

Looks like there are a lot of grateful people out there who do appreciate the big effort in trying to revive the aerojumble circuit at the likes of the Shoreham aerojumble.

I personally came into the aviation world of collecting quite late compared to the majority of the forum members and missed the likes of Yeovilton (Fly.buy thanks for posting the video) also missing the early days of Shoreham and the likes and to think i was annoyed at the 6 cars or so that used to beat me to the parking, i would no doubt of been tearing my hair out if id of been stuck out on the A27 and being beaten to any bargains.

Just a shame its a changing world at the moment regulations, price increases etc that the likes of shoreham has sadly come to its end, so i guess we must be grateful for the likes of Newark and the effort made by the Brenzett aerojumble, Popham etc for keeping the circuit alive.

I would also like to thank Andy and co for there great efforts with the aerojumbles also some of the fantastic guest, book signings that were arranged. highlight for me was meeting the late Eric Winkle Brown.

I loved the video that Fly.buy posted would anyone have any other footage photos etc of some of there previous visits ie of the jumbles themselves or any other prize assets that were displayed or purchased.

Just reading through this thread once again, there certainly were a few gems that day especially control/yoke/Grip wise. i managed to get myself addicted that day to Grip/yokes with my first purchase a relic Typhoon relic grip AH8005 for a bargain £120 still with covering but minus the gun button but managed to acquire one last year, someone got themselves a bargain with the Comet yoke which i believe went for around £125.

I have to admit i so miss Shoreham a very well organized event, getting up at the crack of dawn from Kent to get there with the early bird ticket in hand meeting people with stories to tell with the same interest and not knowing what you may be bringing home via the house back door so the wife dosnt see lol..

This is one space on the calendar i sadly miss..

Spent today at Duxford not much happening in the air or outside no doubt due to the weather and poor visibility, but slightly of topic i listened to a talk of Sir Douglas Bader.

I thoroughly enjoyed the information given given in no 4 Battle of Britain Hanger at 2pm, it was given by a very knowledgeable Yorkshire man who put Douglas across extremely well making his story humorous and sad at the same time.

Sir Douglas was certainly a true Gentleman, heroic and arrogant at the same time, but was total respected by all and rightly so. i came away with total respect but that word just dosnt seem big enough..

Totally recommend this talk given by the Museum and a big pat on the back must go the the volunteer who gave it..

The photo below shows Douglas”s original dress tunic.

I think some of us just get a bit ‘uncomfortable’ about some of these campaigns pressurising for honours and awards.

I couldn’t agree more.. but i believe that Johny Johnson has appealed via a social media page to receive the award on behalf of the 50.000 plus comrades that were lost from bomber command..

But i can see the uncomfortable part, it just dosnt make any sense to me why lesser people are recognized for an award.
