Is it from that famous collection in London, I would take the provenance with a pinch of salt, don’t think there was a lot left of that 111, I spent many hours in the 1990’s looking and probably got a crisp bag full!

It did make me wonder.. as i know this bracket is from a Ju88 crash.. not sure whether the Heinkel would of had the same type of retaining brackets.

Thanks for all the above for confirming this relic it now has its identity. amongst the relic board. well done as always..

I’m still thinking along the lines of a possible type of seat harness…

A bomber crash site near me was 2 metres from a major waterway, 4 metres deep, with ordnance found, fuel contamination, some hazardous materials and mixed up with household waste used to fill the crater. It took three weeks, 550,000 euros and some very serious equipment (not to mention a temporary dam), but remains of at least two airmen were recovered, against all expectations. Never say never.

This is more of what i personally like to hear and that is the “never say never attitude”. remember these guys thought for us, up against in some ways impossible odds,so shall we just turn a blind eye and give up or give (outside help a chance) as im sure there are people out there in fact i know there are.. who can give the likes of F/s Williams a chance to be laid to rest in the way he deserves. i am in the real world and appreciate this will be a major challenge but so was the battle that the likes of Eric Williams and co had thought against almighty odds. lets please be more positive…

“Clearly, any future excavation attempt will require permission of the JCCC and the landowner; in view of the pessimistic analysis and findings obtained from the 2007 operation these permissions might not be forthcoming. Even if approved, any further excavation would still have to contend with the enormous ground, water and domestic rubbish in-fill problems already described. Consequently the scale and cost of such an operation may be prohibitive, especially as some of the items buried there in years gone by are now classed as hazardous waste, disposal of which is both complicated and expensive. Even if sufficient resources and financial backing could be obtained, the prospects of success would still be extremely remote.”

This may be the case but we all owe it to the likes of F/S Eric Williams to give it maybe one final attempt.

I feel extremely confident that there are organizations out there, that could near on pin point the final resting place of pilot and aircraft. lets hope that the authorities will get together with the likes of, so we can hopefully come to a happy conclusion once and for… i do appreciate though that there is still a long long way to go..

Since found this photo that looks very much like it,anyone know what this part is,

As you look at the photo on the top left of the engine there is a section with a green hose that is connected to the relic that i feel i have, the bolt studs line up as does (the pressure relief bolt)

    Hi

Still trying to i.d. this Stuka relic, i now know it has something to do with the coolant system as the green stripe signifies coolant.

I have just come across this photo just below the mechanics right hand there appears to be a pipe that could possibly be the sames as the flattened pipe on my relic. would anyone have any ideas what the pipe could be from? as unfortunately you cant see whats on the other end..

    Hi All.hawker1966,
I came to the same conclusion as OneEightBit (LAC Thomas Newstead), I would add you may try 197 Squadron service records or a general search for
RAF service personnel records ? Follow the links they may help better.

    L.A.C Thomas Newstead 197 Squadron?

    Hi Oneeighthbit:

I had the second name down the same as yourself, which i am pretty much certain correct, but i cant seem find a name for that squadron or on signed prints.. but will keep trying as hopefully someone will come up with an answer..

The F/Lt’s signature names do look like a W and a P, to me.

I can confirm that W G Parkes of 198 Sqn was a wartime casualty. He died in the crash of his Typhoon upon returning from an op with aircraft damage, so definitely your signature is not his:

    PARKES, WILLIAM GEORGE

    Rank: Flying Officer
    Service No: 420497
    Date of Death: 09/03/1944
    Age: 20
    Regiment/Service: Royal Australian Air Force
    Grave Reference: 4. N. 10.
    Cemetery: BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY
Additional Information: Son of Frank Roy and Lilian Parkes, of Bega, New South Wales, Australia.

See the attached Circumstantial Report on his loss.

Do you have any idea when and where the signatures were added to the print? Are they add-ons to this single print, or are then found on the other prints by the artist? If the latter, then tracking down the artist or his publisher would be one way to investigate.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Hi Matt
Thank you for your interest, i would of said that the signatures are add ons, as searching the net this particular print dosnt appear to have these names applied..
