Thank you scotavia for your reply,
I already have the “Battle of Britain book then and now” guess what im doing tonight.
I was hoping someone on here may of been on a Hurricane dig during 1981, i wouldn’t of thought there were to many Hurricane digs during that year as a good majority would of been dug before then’
Im going to try and get an image of the label posted tonight maybe someone might recognise it.
Bumping up this thread due to seeing this type relic at the Kent Battle of Britain museum at Hawkinge last weekend, the museum had an identical hinge that had the same width wood panelling, where mine has the substantial wooden part on one side, there’s showed more of the other side of the hinge itself, which was complete and i would hazard a guess in being around 5 inches in length, so now we know it is 100 per cent from a Hurricane Battle of Britain era.
I cant seem to find its location as yet whilst spending numerous hours on the net along with reference books.
Over to the Hurricane experts for any help please.
Incidentally the K.B.O.B museum has some good new additions to this years display, one being a merlin engine from the Battle of France, original paperwork personal to Sir Keith Park, along with many other personal pilot items, all nicely displayed in the armoury, with Lord Dowding and Sir Keith park on one side over looking there (his chicks pilots) displayed in the centre cabinets in front of them.
Newly displayed in 360 degree all round view cabinets.
well worth a visit.
How was the Kenley jumble?
Sadly i missed this event double booked
Sounded like another worthwhile event, just a shame that i couldn’t make it this time around, interesting to hear also that there was some Blenheim
wreckage, was it anything interesting?
Was there any Gems to be found at Old Sarum?
I missed this event due to other commitments.
I have to agree with FlYBUYS summary of Popham, i arrived to the airfield at around 9.30 AM for a 10 o’clock start only to find there were already ques in excess of around a mile to get in, so my eagerness to get in and grab some possible bargains had failed, but it didn’t take away the enjoyment of the day.
Like it has been said above there wasn’t to many stalls in regards to aviation related items but the ones that were there had some very nice pieces, i ended up with a relic Merlin camshaft from Hurricane P3974 (Krasnodebski of 303 squadrons aircraft) a rare peace, along with a substantial coolant pump 90 per cent complete from Hurricane P3708 (Girdwoods) and a few other nice Hurricane relics, for a seller this event would of been a sellers paradise as the public were still queuing up to get in at 1 o’clock when i finally left, the ques at that point must of had at a guess of around 150 people trying to get into pay (possibly more) whilst driving out again there was still a que of vehicles that must of gone back a mile or so.
Met a few forumites that i can now put a face to (sorry FLYBUY i some how missed you) so overall a great day for me personally as i came away happy once again, i feel these events must be supported in the future as we certainly dont want them to disappear of the annual calender, certainly more fun than Ebay.
Always worth a visit as you just never know what may turn up
Still trying to solve this relic would the canvas type strap have any bearing on its possible location? it includes a fastener (popper) of the type and size of the popper on the B type flying helmet, also there is a type of metal eyelet on the wooded panel itself.
Sorry the photos arnt all that clear im trying to download some better images but having a little trouble at the moment.
Thanks again for any help given.
One thought that i did have on this is a possibility of part of the emergency escape door, although i have seen images of this type of door that is non hinged, but i have also seen images of a door that is swung open and appears to be hinged, would this be an early or late variant?
But the hinge on my relic appears to be finished on either end.
Any thoughts?

For me another great event as a buyer a nice selection of items, i came away with Hawker Hurricane relic rudder peddles a nice P51 Temp Gauge, Relic Mossie throttle quadrant a box of Hurricane relics that included some substantial items along with a Hurricane relic foot plate.
Roll on next even.
or a Heinkel 111 in poor condition between £10.000 and £15.000

Certainly a market for movie props from this classic movie, sadly out of my price range.
For anyone who may of been lucky to of purchased a Hurricane miniature model from the film it may be worth a look at this thread below, £23.995 a nice profit, ive also seen a Hienkel 111 for a lot more, ill try and find it at some point.
Just think what a full size replica would be worth.

Hi Anon and Whitley Project
Thank you for your replies, in regards to where i purchased these relics around 6 years ago, they came from a dealer who was based in Hythe in Kent, i purchased 5 boards a Blenheim from Sarre, airfield relics from Manston, a late War Spitfire from Whychling and a Meteor from the Bromley area, all these relics were within the Kent region so i would imagine the Avro Anson relics originated from this area, all the other boards were labelled bar the Anson as unfortunately this was lost by the previous owner all remaining was the safety pin and a tiny piece of the card, i feel these would of come from the same collection at some point, even possibly someone who may of been a former Archaeologist.
The boards were displayed on the same type of hardboard that looked very 1970″s.
Its interesting that you have narrowed it down to the N serial prefix if you dont mind me asking how was this achieved? also another good suggestion that you have mentioned as a possible way of narrowing down the search via the mod plate.
I can now confidently put an i.d to the wind deflector i tried but up to now have found no images to show this in situ.
Also with displaying the images there is always a chance that someone may recognise them and help to find its identity.
Hi Whitley Project
That sounds very promising, there are 2 large boards to the Avro Anson i will try and post some photos today.
Hi Rocketeer
Would you have a photo?
