Is that the same Hollande, President of a European nation fast approaching the quicksands…?? And the French are stuck with him, like it or not…

The same president Hollande who Ed Miliband stood next too and declared…

‘This new leadership is sorely needed as Europe seeks to escape from austerity. And it matters to Britain.’

    and…

What President Hollande is seeking to do in France and what he is seeking to do in leading the debate in Europe is find that different way forward.

“We are in agreement in seeking that new way that needs to be found and I think can be found.”

Oddly, Miliband has had precious little to say about his chum recently: it’s difficult to imagine the Labour leader jumping to roll out a red carpet to Hollande should he visit London in the near future.

It looks fantastic, but not as pretty as the Queen of the Skies.

When the off-white colour BA uses gets dirty, it won’t be as nice.

The blue is the same as they have always used, just the lights causing it to look more saturated.

But this is BA we are talking about, not Air France.

BA at least wash the planes from time to time.

You mean Ryanair or Ryan Air International from the USA? I can’t see BA swallowing its price and accepting Ryanair’s help. It would give Ryanair too much ammunition for a new PR campaign.

Michael O’Leary has been quite hard on the unions, and even supporting BA.

The not the usual MOL rheotoric, he must be still in a good mood after one of his horses won at the Cheltnam festival last week :diablo:

I hope airlines do check them. I’m flying on a KLM B737NG next week.

I’m sure they will, as its an AD.

Airport 80 with Concorde (Bit of trivia: The Concorde used for the film is the one that crashed).

    Ohh i didn’t know that!

    Also…

Joe Patroni, TWA Spanner monkey (Mechanic) to concorde captain within 10 years?…Whats all that about!

The Right Stuff was an aviation movie of some sort, Also that Jody Foster movie which was loosely based on an A380 when her daughter goes missing.

There is also that made for Tv movie, about the Air Canada “Gimli Glider”

    A new press release…

Unfortunately on March 8th 2010 at 3pm Varsity Express ceased services due to operational differences with the operator, Linksair

All passenger refunds have been processed and customers can expect to receive their funds within 14 working days. Varsity’s credit card clearing house, Pensio, is based in Denmark and are handling the refunds. All passenger funds were kept securely away from the working capital of the company and so all passengers who were unable to fly with Varsity can be assured of a full refund

There are currently many inaccurate and factually untrue media reports surrounded the Varsity Express operation and the individuals behind it. Many of these stories are completely false and untrue and the company will not be drawn into discussion over such claims.

Many thanks to all of our customers, it was with deepest regret and under very trying circumstances that we were forced to withdraw services. We apologise for the obvious inconvenience caused

    Well here’s the dirt:

    http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/entrepreneur/article7061160.ece

Fortunately, due to the damage he’s done to his own reputation and to others he’s suckered, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Halstead restarting Farsity Express or running another airline in the future!

Perhaps that money was used to fund his “James Bond” fantasy lifestye?

Good questions that I doubt we’ll ever get an answer for.

Hopefully there is a good investagive journo out their that could dig a little deeper?

Sadly that’s the way things are handled in the industry Dantheman77…simply because it is seen to be dealt with easier that way, and the less that the customers/passengers know about what’s going on, the better.

Frankly I think its an easy cop-out for airlines to say this…if something is wrong, they should be forced to tell the customers exactly what is wrong and why. That way you (as the airline) have a chance, albeit a slim one, of at least retaining the customers respect for being as honest and truthful as possible, although its doubtful whether or not you will still retain their custom in the future.

I agree with you. However, i would like to say other things regarding this whole situation, but with the Mods hinting that the legal eagles are circling the wagons, i do not want to add to their burden, so i will continue to watch from the sidelines with interest.

Just to add a liitle more to this. Varsity ceased ops 08 Mar. I was advised the following day that Blue Islands had secured a lease deal with Links Air for the Jetstream G-JIBO to operate for them during the forthcoming summer season. To my mind on face value, this does seem to have been arranged rather quick.

    That does seem awfully quick.
Some dirty moves perhaps on Varsity’s expense perhaps?
Up the lease cost to force Varsity out of a deal to free up the aircraft?
It’s been done many times before.
Just one of the many dangers a new airline faces.

    If this is allegedlly true…

So instead of the hush hush surrounding Varsity, why not just come out and say “The people who we leased the plane from broke the contract which we mutually agreed xx months ago, and are now asking for substantionally more money than agreed, we will not be held to ransom by signing the new lease agreement, therefor with great regret we have no choice but to suspend all operations, untill a new aircraft can be sourced.”

It would of been better publicity than just “Services suspended due to operational issues between Varsity & the operating airline” and “Fret not dear friends, a new operator is being souced and we’ll be airbourne again very soon.”

In the world of Business, asking for $5million is chump change when you consider British Airways arranged for £1.5billion for new plane orders, and Maxjet or EOS could go to investors and quite easily get $100-200million in financing (before they went into Chap11)

When an investor won’t put in his money, after it being announced, then something isn’t ringing quite true.

Monday through to Thursday the load factor on the MAN-JFK route is dire, Club is mainly filled up with staff or pax recieving free upgrades.

Friday thru to Sunday is busier, i suspect with people using the service to have a long weekend or shopping in NY.

Only a point to point service, then the pax would have to get the shuttle down to Heathrow for onward connections.

In my own opinion, BA is better using its One World connections with AA to code share on the MAN-ORD route, opens up a helluva lot of connection possibilities.
