hawk is not under powered as a trainer (mk100) but it is as a fighter-bomber (mk200). I’ve reports from Malaysian pilot that the hawk agility is significantly reduced when loaded with external stores such as unguided bombs and rockets.
I read somewhere that the Hawk is the most expensive trainer in it class.
Hawk can carry ATG munition. But the underpowered engine make it less agile in the air.
Air to Ground weapon for RMAF Hawks: Unguided slick bomb (250lb and 500lb), LAU-3/A rocket pod, BAP-100, Rockeye.
Air to air: Sidewinder.
Indonesian Hawk 200 is using Maverick

Hawk 100 is the lead in trainer for Hawk 200 and F/A-18D. As for the MiG-29, RMAF is using the MB-339A as the lead in trainer for it. This is due that both MiG-29 and MB-339 have the same analog architecture cockpit.
RMAF Hawk 200 is used primarily for air to ground, with air to air as secondary role.
MH2000 is the ugliest helicopter I ever see. Even a mom will never love it.
Although hawk is great as a trainer, but not so good with fighter config. The reason is that the engine is not very powerful. When loaded with external fuel tank and weapon, it becoming heavier and less agile. btw, the radar range is quoted at 25 miles for fighter size target.
but, according to the article, 3 Su-30 already with the Algerian AF end 2003. Any additional info or pic?
mirage 2000 vs mirage 2000? very close dogfighting? seems like B grade movie.
When I was in Malaysia I was refused permission to photograph this ALO3 or any other aircraft in the museum?? What is the point of the museum then
I have loads of pics of Allouettes in Air force sevice, but none of any in army service. Do you have any? 🙂
This is the only picture I got. The website http://www.tempur.com.my is currently unavailable. this alouette did not make it to the army, instead went to the air force museum.
Malaysian Alouette still in service with the army (all transfered from the air force) but going to be retired after the same squadron will receive the A-109LOH next year.
I bet they will go for the Rafale. With recent purchase of modern frigate from the french, it is not possible to buy again from them.
not updated, at least for royal malaysian air force
I read an encyclopedia about military aircraft, published in 1983, a Hawk 200 proposal, with EJ200 and supercritical wing, could outperform the EF2000.
