Touring cars have tried the first-to-last grid but even I’d have to admit that it may be rather too hairy for open-wheeled cars.
Get rid of the pit stops ; if you see a car in front of you then the only way to improve your position is to overtake, rather than think ‘I’ll keep the gap steady at 1.2 secs and hope that my teams pit strategy is better than his….’
Really, all this ‘1st place is 20 secs in front of 2nd, who is 21 secs in front of third’ is a bit of a joke – I’ve seen closer finishes at Le Mans…..:(

I’m not sure what ruined F1 more…
Pitstops.

So if the first edition paperback ‘Battle of Britain The Movie’ is up for 48 quid, what would my first edition hardback be worth signed by Robert Rudhall, Ron Goodwin, Mike Vickers, John Blake, Paul Day, Ken Wilkinson and Tony Pickering be worth?
Regards,
kev35
100 copies each of ‘The Movie’ and ‘The Photo Album’ were issued with signed bookplates as detailed above. Now very scarce and collectable – it’s the old story that they’re worth what someone wants to pay but my guess is you’d be fortunate to pay anything under £50 ( £48 for the paperback does seem rather unreasonable )…….
Biggles, Biggles and Biggles.:D
Me too ! ( Am I allowed to say that in these PC days….? )
I remember the first one I read was ‘Biggles In The Baltic’……
Many thanks for the updates about this aircraft, lightninglady99, which I’ve found most interesting – please keep us updated ! I believe that there’s a nice 1/72 model of this Lightning in the pipeline and I look forward to seeing the 1/1 scale one…..:)
And as lively discussion about Lightnings continues on this Forum ( and long may it do so ! 😎 ) I thought this update may be of interest…..
I took the advantage of a holiday in Cornwall last week to go and find the Castle Air / Motors Lightning XS936 which – as can be seen – has had a tidy-up and repaint. I shan’t pass any comment on the colour scheme (!).
Anyhow, it does make a very imposing ‘billboard’ – and a word of advice to anyone who wants to go almong and have a look, it’s actually a few miles from Liskeard toward Plymouth on the A38 ( which may save you some time driving round Liskeard like I did ! 😮 )….

So it was….;)

So it was….;)

Martin, Ive done some home work and found out it was the ‘transmitter building’ TACAN
Cheers 🙂
Many thanks 320psi ! That’s ceretainly something I’d never had guessed at ; as my usual interests are WWII-era I only considered ‘fuel’ or ‘generator’ …….
I think there’s a gap in the book market for a small monograph entitled ‘The QRA Lightnings’…..;)
But seriously, one book that does give a little coverage and some rather good photos of the Binbrook QRA is Bruce Barrymore Halpenny’s ‘EE/BAC Lightning’ ( Osprey Air Combat, 1984 )
I certainly wouldn’t recommend the book as the best ever on Lightnings, but the author lived very close to Binbrook and made several visits in 1982-1984, getting some interesting pics which I haven’t seen elsewhere – including a double-page spread of a Lightning taxying out of the hangar and an interior view of the crews’ quarters.
It’s long OOP but can easily be picked up from specialist aviation bookdealers for a few quid.
The nose section is, I think – the wings and fuselage are from various Saudi Lightnings but others on here will probably know quite a lot more than I do.
Excellent pictures! Any news on the Twin seat??
This is how XS457 looked yesterday……

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply ! 🙂
Now, if anyone wants to continue the proper thread……;)
