Here are a bunch of my friend Bob Williams and his PT-22 from last summer. This is Bob’s third PT-22, and the first flight was in May after a three year restoration

Thanks Setter for kicking this off. Yes boys and girls it’s time for a forum meeting in the Southern Hemisphere (it is summer there, right?). No, it doesn’t coincide with any big airshows, but you can’t tell me that there isn’t anything good to see (or drink) “Down Under”.

    So basically…

    Arrive Auckland Friday, Feb. 11th
Leave for Hong Kong, Monday, Feb. 21st

So, that gives me 10 days to explore New Zealand and Australia. Don’t ask me where I’ll be on any given day, as Setter has graciously signed on as official forum guide for this little expedition. We’re also hopeful that Dave McDonald can join us from Blenheim (as he owes me a Classic Wings t-shirt for the Seafire photos), and I would like to meet up with an L-39 mate of mine, Peter Voss.

When we run out of things to do in New Zealand we’ll head back to Brisbane, and I would imagine Melbourne (to see if the natives have eaten Mr. Tweed). If any of you would like to sign on for some, or all, of the festivities, then please PM Setter and he can coordinate dates and places. Being a typical American I’ve only recently discovered the fact that New Zealand isn’t “just off the coast” of Australia, so maybe I’m not the best one to plan this little journey.

After China I’ll be in England the first week of March. Tentative plans are to have a cleaning day at Old Warden, a visit to the Red Lion in Whittlesford (I mean a visit to Duxford), a pilgrimage to the Jackdaw in Kent (Oooh, Susannah sat here!!!), and of course, the first flight of the Rearwin at Popham.

    So, any takers?

    Steve

    Radial, the bigger the better…

Twin row, 18 cyl., 3350 cu. inches and 3000 hp. Marvelous.

You know what they call in-line engines at Reno? Time bombs.

Stew Dawson has SEVEN consecutive Reno Air Races on his engine, and it’s still going strong.

Steve, I do like that flying machine in your photo…Do the wings flap too?

Do the wings flap??? Of course the wings flap! Wouldn’t be much of a flying machine if the wings didn’t flap.

    Really…some people 😉

I’m having your new “aircraft” shipped right over, Mr. HP.

    Enjoy!

    Well, he did say “interesting”!

This is still my favorite, vs. the newer style turn coordinator, for smaller VFR airplanes. And the slip-skid indicator is a must, until you have enough time where you can feel it in your @ss.

Not a great photo but here she is the day before, sitting on the ramp after the show.

Most excellent plan, HP. I know that Mike J and Andy are also working on a forum trip down to Kent, to visit the Jackdaw, and some other historic watering holes.
