Well, I like your updates. A6-GDP was pretty well known around Stansted, sometimes it was in every week.
Interestingly and on a slight tangent, there was a bit in the paper a couple of weeks back about an Indian (I think….?) airline captain who was having a lean spell so he bought a 747 and had it scrapped in Bangladesh, where labour is cheap. He then made enough selling on the parts to not only get himself financially stable again, but paid for a flash new car as well!
Cheers,Those who do not wish to read my threads don,t have to ,,eh:D
Despite being offered for sale at about $5m with a new wing and two new engines (subsequently removed and the subject of court proceedings) the aircraft is now reported as written off at Baghdad according to ATDB.
Jeez,,,hope i dont get that one,
I before e except after c.:p
Then next can of pop you drink may be that 747!
LOL,,,Sorry ,,i never was the brightest plug in the cylinder head,,
Thankyou ,,,i get a lot of flak for what i do,,,,but sadly all things come to an end,,,i beleive it is the end of an aviation piece of history so why not,,let people know:D
I did, couldn’t see it, link?
Go to daily mail web page ,,,type in 747 jumbo graveyard then search ,,
Bothers me not ,i couldn,t care less just thought it would be of interest to some people who are constantly drapeing over the fence to get a shot,,,,so i assumed it might be of interest.:(

Question: The DHL A300, is it being stored or awaiting the chop?
Paul
Storage possible departure in April or sooner
I am just saying how clean it is ,,,,,the ex cathay one we just done was one of the worst ,,,filthy,in comparison this one is tidy:confused:
I will break her up gently and ,,dinified,
Watch this space ,,,problems with Italian Authorities,,,,Soon very Soon,,:)
Ok i will define mint ,,,,From a breaking of airframe point of view this one is very clean ,,,i think whoever maintained her cherished her ,,,there were signatures of farewell all around the forward pax door we get most 747s in a pretty disgusting state,,,this ones clean;)
But where that came apart was above the forward freight door ,another area of beef up they were very fortunate
Looks like it could be interesting:

But wouldn’t a pressurised aircraft have been a more realistic test as the blast seemed to pass through the skin of the fuselage (possibly through the rivets that were popped) and isn’t it usually the pressure difference that causes small areas of damage to become critical?
Also, is the skin of a 747 really 5mm thick?
No not 5mm,,,,Hardest part of airframe,,,,,do it forward or aft of the wing and oh dear massive decompression and fatal airframe fai:(lure
Any B747 possesses a certain majesty, even when it’s being taken apart.
The picture above is reminiscent of, say, a seventies Cadillac meeting its maker in a car scrapyard.
They are truly majestic ,,i do not always enjoy chewin them up,,,,the white 747 in our compound now is mint absolutely spotless.:(
