Here is a link to a model of a Sabena a/c.

That model looks pretty accurate. There are still several copies of the final release of the Airfix Bristol Superfreighter around which has accurate colours/decals for SABENA in the kit. A good reference if you can track one down.
Here’s part of the flyer for the event being given out at the museum.

That’s my photo on the Flyer. I’ll be there.
I took this photo at Southend in Aug 1960. The most attractive Superfreighter scheme I thought. I know it’s not a colour shot but it was the standard rather nice mid blue Sabena scheme of that time. (Fin and fuselage stripe.) There should be colour pics around of other Sabena types of that era to compare. I recently bought a 1/400 scale model of a Sabena CV440 and I think the shade of blue is accurate as I remember it.
The Aeroclassics SABENA Convair 440 is indeed an accurate rendition, but I think the SABENA Bristol Superfreighter was in it a slightly lighter shade of blue.
I have all the information you need. Apart from always having a soft spot for the type I have been building a model for Flightsim.
You need to choose what you want as there are different cockpit glazings, main cabin window arrangements and in the case of four aircraft, a smaller repositioned passenger door.
Operators were
Air Charter
Air Ferry
British Air Ferries
British United Air Ferries
Channel Air Bridge
Cie Air Transport (France)
Lambair (Canada)
Midland Air Cargo
SABENA (Belgium but UK registered)
Silver CitySome of these operators have several liveries or just variations

Regret, Lambair and Air Ferry operated Freighter Mk.31s, not Superfreighter Mk.32s.
Good stuff, are you arriving by Auster? I’ll probably be on meet and greet duties for at least part of the day, means I have to buy a dreaded high vis vest though
I have a spare hi-viz vest also, both yellow and orange, depending on ‘the flavour of the day’ 😎
Great thread David! Yes indeed, a couple of the RAF’s Comet Mk.2s were given dayglo trim and designated as T.2 trainers for a short while.
I am very proud of the fact that as an ATC cadet, I managed to have flown on XK699 (now on Lyneham’s main gate) as well as ALL FIVE of 216 Squadron’s Comet 4Cs, as well as on XS235 when in service with A&AEE!
I published an article and photos in the October 1992 issue of Aircraft Illustrated and my Avatar shows the front cover photo I took from the ramp of a C-130 earlier the same day.
Janie, I have a head start so you won’t catch me!
Guess you waited beside the runway for her?:o Saw the landing and hope everything is okay?
I flew the last RNZAF Sunderland of 5 Sqn from Lauthala Bay Fiji to Hobsonville New Zealand on the 2 April 1967. Sadly on arrival at the Hobsonville sea base there was not a sole to welcome this final flight of the type which had served not only NZ so well but the South Pacific area in SAR and general support and communications.
Would that be the RNZAF Sunderland now preserved at the MOTAT Museum collection?
Plus, I am allowed to fly in, which is a bonus 😀
Does that mean I can get to photograph a yellow Piper Cub that won’t be surrounded by blue cones?:D Must come and say ‘Hello’ Andy!
Who recalls the flypasts they put on at Boscombe to mark the 50th anniversary?
Remember and weep…
I was there on the preview day and actual day- weather was dreadful for both – 17/18th March 1971. Should have been there on the previous Wednesday as I understand it was gin clear for the rehearsals. Fantastic formations – where else could you see a Beverley, two Hastings and a C-130K in one formation? Also two Sea Vixens, a Meteor NF13 and Buccaneer in another, whilst the ejection seat trials Canberra fired a dummy in the air!
The static will also include an RAF C-17 Globemaster (the largest aircraft to fly into Abingdon for years!)
Blimey – that’s a bit of a coup for this usually low key event! That’ll be a crowd puller – well done!
Well done Steve. I was there on 14th (Queen’s Day) and on 15th(Public Day) at Abingdon June 1968. The station-keeping was better on the public day.
What I would like to know is, were these the same pilots/aircraft that flew a “50” formation over Farnbrough during the SBAC show in September that year?
We haven’t had a Proctor restored to airworthy condition for years, so this is terrific news. With your two and the one being restored at Coventry by the Air Atlantique Classic Flight, that will swell the numbers! Excellent news!
There is a book entitled “The Long Drag” that was published a few years ago detailing the history of RAF target towing. It’s still available in Australia, so it’s most likely still around in England. It details some of the 3 CAACU aircraft and a whole lot more.

I have that book and also several references to 3/4 CAACU aircraft in various books on the Meteor. I can confirm that the last THREE Mosquitos in service with the RAF were with 3 CAACU at Exeter and wore the silver & dayglo-striped scheme with black/yellow undersides when they were retired from service late in 1963. There was an article on them in Air Pictorial around that time, which I’ll dig out. I am responsible for researching the Mosquito TT.35 model for Corgi, so have several pics. The Meteors and Vampires did serve until 1971, but don’t think they adopted the grey finish. The Meteor TT.20s had two patterns of dayglo though and I have several colour slides of them, although no topside shots to confirm roundel size.
Hi All
Anyone with an interest in the Argosy (AW650/660) will no doubt have looked at Phil Hunnisett’s website which was at http://www.argosyair.com. Sadly Phil is no longer with us and his website died with him.
His family have passed all his files to me and I have re-published the information at http://argosyair.co.uk/
I have changed the appearance of the site and I am in the process of updating and adding links and images etc.
Please take a look and email me with any comments on errors and omissions, etc. If you have a website please update the link and email me for a reciprocal link.
I would also like some more photos.
Cheers
Frank
Well done Frank! Good to see you continuing Phil’s work and to see my pics on the site. Give me your e.mail address is a pm and I’ll send you more.
