They may well be sodium filled , but I dont think thats the reason , as many engines ( with non sodium valves ) use this configuration . My understanding was that it is for gas flow reasons . Trapping a small pocket of gas in the centre leaves the other gasses to flow in a more linear fasion out past the valve seat ( faster ) . The inlet doesnt benifit since the gasses are coming in , not out .
Convex, not concave he noted.
There is a patent for an exhaust valve which is significantly convex from a few years back IIRC. Improved gas flow is the benefit stated.
The exhaust valves are sodium filled.
Which engine?
I would imagine that this project will sadly now be the least of their worries over the next ten years and beyond, as the civil war rages on and on and on and on…… 🙁
Utter utter ill conceived folly once more.
Will the hallmark give a clue to date? I wonder if they held these in stock or struck them as needed, if the hallmark gives a date it might be possible to close it down to a group of recipients.
Hallmark:
STG = Sterling Silver
925 = 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and other metals.
Did they all have the luxury of a hallmark would be another avenue to pursue, as would, were they watered down in silver content during WWII?
Thank you very much once again gentlemen, I shall pass on your comments.
Significant or on the downward trend – but Scotland has no stake.
Revenues for Scotland from oil and gas reserves were lost when Scotland last sensibly voted against an independent Scotland in the late 1970s.
The reserves you speak of are on downward slopes (oil) maybe a little gas left but Scotland owns not a yot of it. Offshore battles in courts will set them back even more to try to claim any revenues from the Oil Giants.
Foreign owned whisky distilleries,
Some salmon,
some beef
some Harris Tweed
and Heather covered Highlands
These revenues alone will not feed the budgetary requirements of the mad modern day Wallace, free prescriptions, free bus travel, free education at University and freedom for it’s people to be drunken louts as of old. No work output or productivity, why you may ask, No Jobs :diablo:
Economically the UK must stand together as an island, regional pride in dress, customs, sports is great but the Union was formed under King James and the Union flag must fly if the recovery from economic doldrums is to hasten.
Poorly researched ignorant and insulting twaddle!
Now, meanwhile back in the Leuchars thread.
All three stations were strongly hinted at being closed for a long time, though in reality only two would be closed, to those in the know.
Standard Govt tactics, regardless of their colour is to put out an initial false story such as: “All three Scottish RAF stations to close”, when they know only two need to be closed. Then at the 11th hour, anounce in a fanfare that “Lossiemouth has been saved”. Leaving Joe Public and the state controlled media to praise what a fine thing Govt has done in saving the base.
In reality, the significant building programme at Lossie, new control tower, Officers Mess etc. etc. has never flinched over the past year, progressing away as if nothing ever happened.
Lossie was never, never to be closed. The micro climate and geographical location are too handy.
[QUOTE=nJayM;1776669]No arrogance just realistic about Scotland not head in the clouds waiting for mana from Whitehall obviously.
There are no assets or growth of industry in Scotland for a mission of true independence in the current economic climate.
IQUOTE]
Did you forget about Scotlands Oil reserves?
There are significant reserves still to be had/disclosed.
It’s a wonderful thought and in an ideal world would work.
This is all off topic:
However the reality is, as soon as your Dna gets added to a database, you (and your whole extended family) firstly become a ‘suspect’ and secondly your most private of private information, relies on the integrity and security of the archive, both inevitably being compromised by the whims of the barely democratic incumbent Govt of the day, regardless of their persuasion it now seems.
The scandalous infant blood spot screening data base is a case in point. Govt is building a DNA data base of all new UK newborns by stealth. You are bullied into having the tests, but as I determined, the DNA test required is not private or destroyed following the checks for the rarest of rare deseases. The back-up of the information is also not secure. (The US has now confirmed this purpose as fact over there)
My off spring had the tests, but thanks to a true and democratic Doc, the identification details were slightly confused in the system to say the least!!
DNA is a great tool, but is/will be greatly missused.
Thanks Steve. 🙂
Are there any mechanical bits that you just can’t get anymore, or has every major assembly been remanufactured by now too?
ie throttle box, chassis control, undercarriage legs, pintels, cylinders.
What about prop hubs, are these still hens teeth?
Can someone in the know please answer any of these?

If PC means not offending other folks or not using language that might offend then I’m all for it. Being rude and offensive to others is nothing to be proud of.
Will you consider eating your bacon roll in private in future, otherwise you may be arrested?
Knock Knock!
——Pokes head into XH558 thread after absence of year——

He either needs to employ a LOT more people, or start selling airframes. At the current rate stuff is being done most of us won’t be alive when it gets finished.
On the other hand, at least there will still be rather some tasty projects available for our children to work on and theirs too. 🙂
[QUOTE=Dave Homewood;1744881]I have been compiling a list of Vickers Wellington bombers that flew on No. 75 (NZ) Squadron in the period of 1939-1941 from various flying logbooks and other sources.
I can add my grandfathers Wellington T2463 to the list, I have the AA-? code at home and will pass later (buried on Ostend airport with human remains still aboard)
