Wow! I wonder what happened to it……………..
‘Very few people would be strong enough to raise one of those early Tape Video Cameras skywards…’
Quite the opposite. Even professional handheld video cameras were ‘lightweight’ at this point. Don’t forget, they wouldn’t nessacerily (sp?) record in the camera either, they would be connected via cables back to the OB truck to record there. In one of my car rallying videos I have footage of the BBC filming the RAC Rally in 1986, and it’s WOMAN who is filming the proceedings, so the cameras certainly weren’t large at all.
Amateur formats at that point were video-8, Hi8 (I think), plus of course full-size VHS and VHS-‘C’, so all easy-peasy!
Just clicked on that last link. Apart from the two graphic piccies of XR807, it would be nice if their webmaster could actually spell.
Here’s the ONE sentence that accompanies the said photographs:
‘With the recovery program complete on the both aircraft, 807 has now been dispossed of after removal of test sections including door aparture and floor beam sections.’
I count THREE spelling mistakes in that one sentence!!
‘I just stumbled across the video for “Learning To Fly” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.’
That would be 1992-3.
‘called the Swandean Spitfire.’
Surely it was the ‘Swandean Special’?
I do like the look of these old gliders ———- not that you’d ever get me actually IN one !! lol.
just thought I’d give this a little bump as it’s not long to go.
all the best.
I can’t see any photo ?? ?
Apollo 8, my favourite Apollo mission, first crew round the back of the Moon and back home again. Who could forget Boorman (I think) reading from Genesis from the Moon on Christmas Eve 1968?
FAB!
Just joined the Facebook page – keep up the good work, lads!
I’m sure, on the ‘Band On The Run’ re-issue CD, there is a recording of McCartney and Wings (geddit?) rehearsing said track at Cardington. It always stuck in my mind. But what a great place for a band to rehearse a world tour??
excellent, thank you, Crosswind.
