Miles aircraft
Nobody has referred to the two “Miles” built aircraft which are (sadly) only being restored to Display condition. The Miles M100 Student, must surely be close to completion at the Musem of Berkshire Aviation at Reading, and the Miles buillt B206X at Shoreham was looking resplendent in a new coat of “Beagle Bronze” when I last looked in on the hangar:):)
LARGE Aircraft
You may not agree as to whether they are aircraft, but what about the Soviet Ekranoplans, They certainly took off but only had a ceiling under 100 ft.
Surely this qualifies them as aircraft?
It doesn’t help in this particulr case, but isn’t there a Guppy preserved in the States at Pima Air Museum?, Tucson, Arizona
I believe it to be a Stratocruiser/C97 version

Airshow Displays
There seems to be some sort of mythical belief that without a Tornado performing a full aerobatics routine, there would be nothing to see but it just isn’t true. Aircraft taking-off, landing, performing a fly by or whatever is just as interesting, indeed more interesting than being fobbed-off by wing walkers or gliders.
I for one am getting fed up with seeing a fast jet doing a high speed run down the display line followed by a slow run and a couple of flick-rolls on the return.
I would like to see more displays on the lines of Major “Boy” Soons RNethAF in the Fokker Military F27 Friendship whom I saw at the last IAT at Greenham Common. The PA commentator said “He never takes off, He merely retracts the undercarriage”, as he flew the length of the runway at (in my estination) no more than 50 feet. On reaching 1 000 feet he feathered one engine and flew the rest of his display on one engine. Not an operational requirement perhaps, but extremely exciting to watch, and that is why I go to Airshows.
Hendon reigns OK
turn the lights on for a month!! then close it down move everything to cosford
What about us poor sods in the South then. To do Cosford properly means an overnight stay on the way up. and probably again on the way back. Granted that we have Duxford in a days trip, but the Spouthern branch of the RAF Museum should stay in Hendon

Just hfinishede reading “Bomb Alley” by David Yates: a ratings view ofthe Falklands affair. Next in the schedule is “Winkle” Brown’s “Wings on my sleeve””
Among the Paper aircraft, I recall someone about 15 years ago in “Pilot” magazine doing a feature on the evolution of the perfect aircraft according to the rules of Burt Rutan. It went through about 15 to 20 iterations eventually finishing up resembling a Focke-Wulf 189 with asymmetric wings, and an offset pod for payload
It looked hideous but there were good reasons for the changes made for each iteration
Thanks Daz, I never could get my german manufacturers correct

i Gget the impression tha it was a proof of concept installation. I don’t think Sir Sydney Cqmm would have approved an implicit suggestion that the Hunter was inadequate and braking needed assistence from reverse thrust
I have some pictu.res taken during itrial installation that I obtained from the Visitor Centre at Shoreham Airport
I unearthed the attached pictures in the Visitor Centre at Shoreham Airport while researching data on the operations of F.G. Miles Ltd.
Yes I was an apprentice at FG Miles Ltd and worked for FG Miles Engineering from Feb 1966 till Singer bought Miles Electronics in September 1969, when I was transferred to Link-Miles
I am researching for a pamphlet on the products of the Miles Group of Companies, which includes a section on the devices built by MILES Electronics
If you have any specific queries mail me and I will endeavour to answer them

Simulators for preservation
Problem is that there is no reason for RAFM to acquire these, as they didnt enter service with the RAF.[/QUOTE
Point taken, but how often does the opportunity to acquire a state of the art flight simulator arise.
If indoor space is a problem then JaguarV, Jetstream T!, Lynx AH7, all the Tornadoes and 2 Harrier GR 7/ simulators came in self contained buildings which only require a concrete hardstanding. (I can foresee a problem moving the 26ft dia visual dome for the Harriers, but that is another story)
