I’ve got loads and loads of the plastic snap-together models.

They are the best way to start a decent model collection. I have models from most of the aircraft I have flown on with most being purchased on board the aircraft – Airtours A330, Thai 747, Excel 737, British Airways 747, British Airways 767, British Airways 757, Monarch A300 to name a few… They are all on display, collecting dust on top of my wardrobe.

Although you pay quite a bit more for models by Herpa, Germini Jets, Dragon Wings, Star Jets and others, the quality is certainly a great deal better and the detail is amazing.

If you want to start a decent collection, I would recommend Star Jets for 1/500 models and Dragon Wings for 1/400. I’m not overly impressed with the Herpa range. My Thai 747 is not anything like what it should be!

I flew with Britannia to Barcelona-Girona (©2004 Ryanair) on a 767-200 not too long before this accident happened.

I’ve never been to Antigua, but have been to Thailand twice, spending a total of seven weeks there so far. Also meant to be going in November and again in March, so as you can guess, it’s a popular destination with my family and I.

You want to get as far away from the the miserable UK as possible, so go to Thailand. It’s cheaper to get there with an airline like Aeroflot (via Moscow), Uzbekistan (via Tashkent) or even Thai (direct) if booked far enough in advance.

Once out there, the cost of living is so much cheaper than it would be in Antigua. You could eat a meal at a moderately-priced restaurant for less than £2.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours, but I know where I’d want to go.

Why do people fly such short distances? By the time you have checked in for the flight and then disembarked and passed through the destination airport, wouldn’t it have taken at least 3 or 4 times as long as going by road?

Someone was selling a link to that om ebay.co.uk recently. Shocking!

However, Gatwick to Dublin is not available at all this month for less than £5 one-way. Prices range from £35 to £99 each way.

Was looking at Germanwings last night. There are plenty of fares from LGW-CGN for 1p, but the cheapest fare for the return leg is £14! And even after searching every day for a 30-day period, there was nothing cheap coming up!

Perhaps you should do away with the A320 and take a 737 instead? You could have just about an all-Boeing fleet.

The Thomson.co.uk colour scheme is out of control and cluttered. It has those huge letters plastered across the fuselage, ‘Boeing 757-200’ at the back of it, a registration and a Union Jack, a world of TUI logo towards the nose and an aircraft name as well!

As for the Fly Jet Green colour scheme, there is an advantage. When they go under, it’s nice and easy to remove, ready for it’s next operator. 😛

I remember that when we were booking our Summer 2003 holiday, we had a choice of airlines to fly with to Bangkok.

The two cheapest were Thai (747 direct) and Qatar (A330/A300 via Doha). However, flying with Qatar would have saved us £20 each.

The only way Kuoni would let us fly would be to incur an 18-hour wait in Doha for the connecting flight. Something we were certainly not willing to do.

At the time, most forum-users urged me to fly with Qatar. If I can get a direct flight, I much prefer to do that. Let’s face it, you get there quicker and you’re flying with a popular airline. Well, Thai were recently voted 5th best airline in the world! Qatar didn’t come into the Top 10.

Off topic but did it really cost a penny to fly out of NCL LGKR?

Ryanair are currently offering some flights for free. You’ll even see that LGKR’s Bristol to Newcastle flight was -£2.50 (in other words, easyJet are paying you £2.50 to fly with them). However, you must add the airport taxes which seem to be a lot compared to other countries.

In Thailand, the tax added to an example flight I searched for was B160 (less than £2.50).

Sack the staff on strike.

That’ll teach them not to be so petty. It’s not as if there isn’t much demand for people to work in the industry.

Flying is great fun.

On a 12 hour flight, the takeoff and landing is brilliant. It’s just the 11 hours and 55 minutes between that are a bit boring!

Like A330Crazy, I’m also going to Glasgow with bmi on 3rd June on the A321. Returning later that same day.

We’re still looking around for our November holiday. If we choose to go to Hong Kong as well as Thailand, flights are operated by oneworld; BA, Qantas and Cathay. Alternatively, just Thailand will be with Thai Airways again or maybe even Qatar Airways. Airbus A330 to Doha and then an A300 onto Bangkok.

I can’t see that being a bmi aircraft – there’s lots of red on the tail.

I’m guessing a British Airways 747-400.
