    Sounds quite a thrilling experience and not one you’re likely to see all to often. I suggest checking Airliners.net in a few days and I guarantee there will be a photo on there…

    Never experienced any of their flights but they stopped services in the Autumn of 2001(?) and when sold to First Choice, the aircraft were not included in the deal – seems a waste for A320s and A321s to be parked up in storage for a year and a half. My understanding being that they are STILL in storage?

    A wonderful aircraft and a wonderful photograph, it looks so mean from the front!

    What is the third engine – is there a fan inside or is it just a long black tunnel?

    I think that’s great news. Richard Branson is a true gentlemen and he choice for a Captain couldn’t have been better. I’m not sure Iraqis would have any idea as to who is/was, but his presence would have excited soldiers in Iraq.

    My revision has been left last minute. I have my first exam in 10 days, fortunately one that doesn’t require revision and my next one is on 10th June, so I’ve got a month and will get down to work on Tuesday, non-stop.

    My final piece of coursework EVER at sixth form is due 2 weeks today and I’m on track for completing it and hopefully coming away with a good grade at the end of it.

    Good luck to all taking exams in the Summer!

    But that’s one exception and perhaps Astraeus were operating scheduled flights. Monarch or Air 2000 (one of the two, can’t remember) use DP for the scheduled flights that they operate.

    I don’t think runway lengths and traffic should be the major concerns. Don’t forget, air traffic control can make an airport “dangerous”. Was it Tenerife in the 70s where poor communication between ATC and two aircraft led to a disaster where two 747s collided?

    Although this was due to the unco-operative pilot of one aircraft, no effort was made to tell him to stop I believe?

    I mentioned this in a flight report from last year. I flew with Aitours and the 767 aircraft on the return journey was wearing Garuda Indonesia titles.

    You could forget the flights and just watch the tennis, but I cannot stand the sport – better off without!

    I saw a competition this morning in a promotional cigar magazine which we received in the post. It was featuring a competition for a 2 night break to Rio with Varig flights from Heathrow to somewhere in Brazil. The tighest term and condition out of the lot was that you had to be a smoker to enter! I think that is a disgrace and surely encouraging smoking!

    I flew Cyprus Airways back in 1995 and thought they were a good airline, too. We flew London Gatwick to Larnaca on an A320 aircraft.

    Lovely – there’s some brilliant shots on Airliners.net with water including a colourful 737 parked up and the nose being reflected in a puddle – but that’s wonderful!

    Another similar question regarding airline codes:

    Why do scheduled carriers use 2 letter codes e.g. BA for British Airways, JM for Air Jamaica and UA for United airlines whereas charter carriers use MYT for MyTravel, TCX for Thomas Cook? (3 letters)
