Apologies Moggy I quoted as a force of habit on the last post after you had asked us not to. It was not a deliberately provocative act
Why does brick wall and head come to mind.
Wings
I have apologised and tried to end this several times but you just keep coming back.
The wind up only came late in the day because you laid yourself wide open to it.
Moggy
Will do.
Please wait while I put my brown trousers on.
Ah that’s better. I really appreciate the way you moderators give up your spare time to help keep us unruly mob in order and keep the forum running smoothly.
In particular your even hand.
See I know how to be diplomatic.
Fine Paul. The end of it. Thank you
Wings
I am sorry you have got completely the wrong end of the stick, in fact the wrong stick altogether.
Clearly you feel I have insulted you in some way and that just wasn’t the case.
However, as you feel you have been insulted I apologise unreservedly.
If you ever get some time watch some Till Death Us Do Part, or look up Johny Speight, and the Armstrong and Miller Spitfire adverts.
And to every bodies relief can we leave it there.
Thank you. Don’t for a moment think I don’t get/understand the above comedies.
I may have got the wrong end of the stick but you were as you said deliberately winding me up.
As for Moggy. Yes I will leave it there. Promise. As you request.
On the other hand and with due respect. No one asks you to be a mod. So spending your own time does go with the territory sadly. If I didn’t quote then I would worry that someone else may think I’m responding to them.
By and large forum members are capable of following the drift of argument given minimal clues. Quoting the first line or two of a long post is sufficient. Look above, you could have deleted the last four lines of that quote and your point would still be clear. And it is never necessary to quote a post when it is directly above your own..
Sarcasm. I thought that was obvious.
Wings
I am sorry you still do not get it.
The sarcasm IS NOT AIMED AT YOU personally.
The sarcasm is aimed at myself to make fun of stereotypical views.
I give up, will somebody else please try to explain, as clearly I am not making myself clear.
Thanks I will and at DX the following weekend. Hope you have something good planned.
So why didn’t you just say at the beginning that you were being sarcastic and just purely existing to engage in winding up. Your last post exists only to make your behaviour sound acceptable and my own to be because I am gullible. Hence the ‘I give up’.
We were in a discussion and you were personally responding to me and you were making comments which you have admitted were aimed solely at winding me up. You said it clearly that I was being wound up. That is personal and you were wasting my time. I find that to be rude.
So you are admitting you are all the others then? Drive a polo, wear a peaked cap and from Essex. etc. 😀
Please leave Charlie out of this. He’s older than me.:D
Well when we started chatting on another thread I thought we had agreed to disagree. Then you arrived here which, of course, is your right.
I do think we should take pity on other forumites and move this to DF as it has no relevance to the OP.
What you fail to understand, looking down from your high horse, is that you are being wound up.
Were you one of those people who used to complain about Till Death Us Do Part being racist?
Next you will be saying that the name of a certain dog is racist. (Please, please do not answer that)
Well the best thing is when the hole is deep enough, stop digging, so that is exactly what I will do. (do I hear big sighs of relief from the plebs?)
Your approach to stereotypical assumptions is, well, stereotypical, mine is sarcasm which seams to go over your head.
My comments were not personal but deliberately stereotypical to make me look like the arrogant old fool that I am, but you just did not see that.
As John said you do need to lighten up, he meant that in a friendly way I am sure.
Paul
I get it now.
The purpose of this forum is to be sarcastic so others don’t know what you mean.
Be sarcastic even though the other person is clearly being sincere
Use derogatory language in a sarcastic manner even though not all might realise it.
Not engaged in a genuine discuss by aversion
Being impolite and wasting someone else’s time by not having the manners to say ‘I’m not bothered to discuss it sensibly and openly’
So. After complaining about the rude lady having poor manners at the airshow, your manners prove to be similarly flawed. Just a different kind of manners. I realised you were being sarcastic but as some of answers had sections which has some thought in them I had presumed they weren’t a 100% a wind up.
At least I know now we can end this as you don’t wish to engage in productive conversation. Or if not productive, pleasant. It’s a shame.
Happy to end it there but it is sad you can’t e more genuine in your responses.
Enjoy your trip tomorrow
Best wishes
Unrealistic. Yes perhaps. But does that not mean you can’t contribute to it being less unpleasant and less prejudice and more open minded?
I don’t live in a sanitised world. I live in the same one as you. Accept it? Or improve it in little ways? Or discuss stuff and come to a common ground or if not understand other points of view.
No need for ‘get a grip’ or ‘lighten up’
Wings 43
Lighten up !
John.
Lighten up? Is that because you can’t add to the discussion constructively?
You’re undermining you’re own point. You are saying we are all ‘plebs’ yet you say you wouldn’t admit to it and differentiate yourself in your joke. ‘plebs’ doesn’t refer to everyone in current day derogatory usage.
You say you don’t use personal comments in your posts and yet what was that last post if not?
My post was conciliatory and asked you to think about the use of the word.
When I travel first class it is not to get away from other people. I have honestly never thought about that. It’s because the seats are better with more leg room. Also sometimes prices are so cheap that it’s worth pay extra for the free refreshments. Not because I want to escape a particular type of person in standard class.
Chavs calling themselves chavs. Think about that statement and why it doesn’t work. If someone wishes to call them self a chav it is their choice. If you choose to label an individual or group as chavs (commonly a derogatory term) then you can see the difference.
Any chance of discussing the issue sensibly or will you just rely on ‘get a grip’.
And, no I’m not under 30.
I wasn’t really interested in the answer more so your response in terms of is being a ‘pleb’ a bad thing?
Thread drift but don’t you just hate having to walk over blankets and family picnics to get to a gap in the front line for decent pictures?!
Walk around them? Get a longer lens?
🙂
Keep the plebs out? But they’re the ones with the cash!!;)
Pleb. A horrid word. Like ‘chav’ it’s use has nasty undertones. Paul’s comment (and yes, before anyone says.. I realise its intention as a joke) about keeping the ‘plebs’ out is an example. I doubt anyone here would suggest in a ‘joke’ keeping out anyone on the basis of gender, race or sexual orientation but they would based on social status.
I know Paul and Charlie don’t probably mean any harm by it and are joking. It’s not my intention to necessarily accuse you of any stance but it’s not nice when you actually distill it and think about the comment.
So Paul and Charlie, I’m not throwing any mud at you now or asking anything other than maybe consider the use of words like that.
A stress free air show!!! That will be the day. Ban all people under 40, close all access roads for use by attendees including one lane of the M11 in both directions. Have all seating pre booked. Increase the ticket price to £200 to keep the plebs out. Headphone commentary only, DX has just installed WIFI outside so maybe that’s the way they intend to go.
How much of that would you really like to see happen Paul?

Are you not a pleb yourself then?
Find a new wife.:D
One with an airband radio, 400mm lens and a red arrows fold out chair? Nah… Would look too much like you lot 😉
Paul,
Thanks for your reply.
I think perhaps we’ve strayed so far from the original point that id lost sight if your original point which you’ve reiterated about entertaining some people via speakers spoils it for others. I’m not sure I buy that they are aimed at kids. Take duxford and this chap that seems to upset everyone so much at Legends. I’ve heard him. I don’t think he is aimed at kids. I do get your point and have some sympathy but I can’t see it how it spoils it for some. I find the legends commentary a little eccentric and whilst I wouldn’t miss it I can live with it. For the record I personally would prefer silence and basic info but it doesn’t annoy me much that it doesn’t. I just tune it out and because I don’t wish to record the moments there isn’t the added irritation of having that ruined.
