I hope you punched him….?
Or maybe just put the same effort into putting him straight and explaining where he’d gone wrong?
I think the British Public are less knowledgeable about WW2 full stop. I was born in 1945 so it was close to my memory growing up.So what are today’s children taught about it. From what I have seen and heard, very little.
To be fair, and I don’t think you are being completely fair or generous to young people today, they actually are taught a good amount. Ive visited lots of schools where they’ve been quite informed and been on group visits to museums where they’ve engaged in studying the first and second world wars but even if their knowledge isn’t incredibly indepth then there is a lot of history to cover. When does something stop being a priority? How far back does something need to go to stop it being the prime focus?
The Holocaust? Napoleonic Wars? Cold War? Boer War? Ancient Greece? Roman Empire? Great War? WW2? You could go on and on. I bet it’s a thankless task setting the national curriculum. So much to study.
I actually think children in this country arn’t all as uniformed about WW2 as you think.
Sarah?
Hatred just because it’s not on a flypast route. Hatred? Yes, they must really HATE a place because they haven’t flown over it. They must hate a lot of places!!!
Was it released on DVD or are these all dodgy copies. Presumably the YouTube link was taken down because it infringed rights.
I don’t think anyone is forgetting the events of the day.
Geoff,
Are you joking?
Having stubble is offensive to veterans? Infact it looks like a beard? Why would he shave his beard off.
Not singing the national anthem if you believe in a republic is an offence to veterans? (Even though you have openly praised them!!) He stood politely and let others sing the anthem. Everyone kept true to their own principles. Would it have been more respectful to be a hypocrite? There was no reason to make as big a new story of it as has been except to cause upset. The papers could have chosen to concentrate on the service (which Corbyn said was beautiful) but instead waited for that moment. If you want to force people to sing an anthem then it is hardly upholding the values the veterans fought for. I’m sure the Queen will get over it too.
And to not have your top button done up is an insult?
Well there is only one thing to do to find out. Ask as many veterans as you can how upset each of these things makes them. I doubt on a day like to today they are not to upset particularly when there is an image of Mr Neil shaking Prince Harry’s hand.
I guess the red button might have been allocated to something else?
I’ve not seen any coverage get. Hopefully something on I player later
Outraged again ?
The mail are, not me. I don’t see anything to be outraged about today. Just a day to reflect.
Never mind though – we have to sit through the drivel being spouted by Comrade Corbyn for the next hour….
Whether you disagree with his politics or not he went and paid tribute to BOB aircrew and the RAF during the war despite all this rubbish churned up about the poppy being pushed about by the mail (who said his lack of matching trousers and jacket was disrespectful!!!)
The aircrew of the BOB fought for liberty and part of that is freedom of speech and democracy. Exercising those freedoms is the best way to honour those who died.
Paul, what is it misrepresenting? I can’t see that it is misrepresenting anything. The fact it has an incorrect spitfire on it doesn’t mean you can get your money back surely. Does that mean that viewers of downton abbey can return their DVDs because the station is clearly a southern station? I’m with you… It’s tacky but it’s no more tacky than a lot of aviation memorabilia and let’s face it a lot of aviation products sold are!
Loads of people use the term tribute when selling things like this or royal family commemorative plates etc. No one is being conned. Key publish stuff called tributes. Tributes they may be but they are products. Here, It is obvious what you are getting and the quality. I don’t think anyone is being taken for a ride. The advert seems honest though full of hyperbole. It shows the coin loud and clear. If you buy it then it must be down to taste and recognition of what a beautiful wonderfully highly crafted poignant moving tribute that these coins are.
Paul
I doubt you could return it as not sold as seen. There is a picture of front and back views so no surprises. Plus it says ‘tribute’. It doesn’t accurate depiction of BOB scene. If that was the case then you could take the makers of the BOB film to case for funny colour schemes and various marks of spitfire that have no business of being there.
A tribute could be anything…
Anyway. It says ‘masterfully engraved’. I’ve bought another six.
Would this not be a case for trading standards?
Maybe they have been told their mistakes which is why the price has been reduced from £50 to £8.
What do people do with these coins anyway?
Same as a corgi model or aeroplane photo… Display it and enjoy it. This one is exquisite. I’ve ordered six already.
The OP has created a website onto which he is driving traffic by finding occasional points of interest and then drawing people to it. J. Boyle’s observations are also relevant.
His website is his product which he promotes by asking us to go look at it via a link. Advertising I thought was not permitted under forum rules.
Well then you would have to ban other posts then such as that recent reeves one advertising parts. No different.
Good call Mod.
How can anyone here advocate deleting a user who has not broken a rule. No justification all.
