Is this aircraft a contender to be raised or is a B29 not a rare enough aircraft when so many other examples exist?
Best wishes
Really ! Your incredibly negative about the former Classic Varsity and its prospects ! However the guys at Newquay are giving it a go -more than the IWM were prepared to do -with an almost certain prospect of scrapping at Duxford otherwise ! Now we have the potential doom of the Canberra WK163 – another aircraft that Classic/Airbase have financed over the years -indeed it was saved by private enterprise and not in any way by the national museums !
Maybe its time to cut the guys at Coventry some slack rather than painting a picture of dereliction and dispair which certainly doesn’t encourage potential volunteers or visitors!
The problem is David that if aircraft of a larger size aren’t put under cover then their long term future is at risk. More needs to be done to address this nationwide.
Or using the same standard, don’t look at my posting!
What lovely manners
My view too. We are fortunate in having a few members who share their material with us, often daily, in this thread. As PP said – if you don’t like don’t look.
Pen Pusher is wrong in my opinion in that score. If someone wants to politely say they don’t like HDR of other forms of processing then if think that’s fine. It can be done politely though. Sarcastically though is a bit rich considering the effort PP puts into sharing.
Totally agree. Why not ask the O.P. what he had for breakfast, just as relevant!
I suspect it is a case of that very particular type of posturing that forums encourage. Those comments let people know how important they are and how unimportant others are. The fact is that historic aviation has a place for everyone inc those who restore and fly to those who watch and buy the airfix kits. Everyone one in the chain is important in our hobby/interest. The more people we encourage to be interested the more it will flourish.
A thank you to all who displayed. Not a small undertaking to move a cockpit across the UK and I hope those exhibited enjoyed the event as much as many of the visitors clearly did.
…someone’s tired!
Or maybe word criticism constructively rather than with a hint of sarcasm ?
Any photographer posting images on a public forum might expect feedback but there are more courtesy ways than others to frame it!
Have to agree with Wings. As something of a ‘newbie’ to this forum lark, Blue Max’s response sounded close to patronising, definitely arrogant. Puts me right off.
Quite. The original poster may just be enthusiastic about a new development at the museum/airfield.
If it’s secret then a word to that effect can be said.
The response does seem to be one of those that strikes to show the divide between those in the know and those not. It’s a forum! Speculation and curiosity are as much a part of this forum as informed discussion. I could have understood the comment if someone was asking what was going on in someone’s private house but seriously.
And why by chance do you need to know ??
Because he is probably curious and curiosity forms the basis of a lot of enquiries on this forum. If you’re going to ask him that now why not ask of it anyone who has a question.
What a miserable response.
A guy on Antique Roadshow had a complete flying panel, maybe he could donate it and be remembered for this ?? Check out the Roadshow series. cya
Or you could buy the panel of the gentlemen in question and then donate it! I’m sure he either enjoys having the panel of if he had been on the roadshow it might suggest he appreciates it’s monetary value too.
🙂 It does make me smile how others idly suggest what others do with their property and money. If we had a penny for every Branson/Sally B comment!
Good luck to them with the restoration. I too think it was interesting in it’s long nose guise but it is there aircraft and they are the ones slogging away on it. A world war 2 example is admittedly more of a draw to visitors. I would imagine anyhow.
I’m saying someone creating a new scheme isn’t reproducing anything. Pretty simple. It’s only reproduction if you try to recreate an existing scheme. I’m baffled why you don’t accept that.
I’m not arguing you have to get your own jaguar but I think you should and I think the forum would back you up. It would be good for your stress levels as it would be one less scheme to upset you.
Good luck with it.
I for one found that very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to outline your approach. I wish you well with the return to flight. It will be great achievement when you get there.
Wings, I think you need to read very carefully what you said. You don’t seem to understand what “reproducing” actually means. Maybe you should look-up “semantics” ? 🙂
Explain it please as I’m lost to see how my definition of reproducing is wrong.
The point is WH904 that a paint scheme can be changed. It’s not as if these aircraft are wearing the original paint so no history is being damaged. If you want a jaguar in your exact authentic scheme then I wish you well on your quest to save up and purchase one. I’ll chip in a few quid once the project is underway.
All the best
Great museum and great event!
But it’s not wrongly reproduced if someone is painting it in a scheme of their own.
Yes it is – that’s what a reproduction is.
No it isn’t! If you think it is then you should look up the word in the dictionary. To reproduce something is to mimic, imitate, recreate etc. If joe bloggs has a former RAF liveried plane for example and decides he wants to paint it pink he is not reproducing the original scheme. He is PRODUCING a new one of his own choice, choosing and creation. He is no REPRODUCING anything.
