‘Other obnoxious female mp’.
There are lots of female MPs. Which one are you referring.
This is what I mean, would we hear ‘that other obnoxious male mp’
Of course not. It would be ‘that other obnoxious mp’ or the name might be know. There are loads of female MPs but intentionally or subliminally these MPs are defined on this forum by their gender equally in addition to their actions.
There are plenty of MPs who are on debate programmes not just two female MPs. The whole point of question time is that is a popular forum for public debate. It’s kind of vital that politicians do go on it to face the public. Whether they earn a payment for this I don’t know, it would be in the register I’m sure but if they earn for it so do, probably, the rest.
Bazv. I have no problem with people having a variety of opinions. I just think that some of the prejudiced posts on here should be called out for what they are ( see a recent post on historic calling all travellers every name under the sun etc ) Take this one where someone questions that a woman can’t do her job because of her weight rather than because of abilities (abundance of/lack of depending on personal view) when the job does not require high fitness levels. If she was trying to be a PT then yes, it might warrant a raised eyebrow! But Home Secretary?
ah I see. id not realised. Will cease with the quotes.
I’m sure you won’t be even remotely surprised how little your opinion impinges on my world?

No need to be so unpleasant. Does anyone’s opinion ever change your mind about anything?
It might be a failure of your sense of logic but, not mine. The original comment was that the-shadow-Health-Minister-who must-not-be-named, was a pretty poor advertisement for the job. That is all. Predictably that unleashed a breeze of “Ah yes, but, so” !
There is a clear distinction between ‘use’ and ‘appearance’. I agree that there should be more emphasis on ‘use’ or ‘used’ rather than appearance. If you’ve never used a system then you’re hardly in a position to either organize or criticise.
The nameless person in question is an unlikely advert for the post.
How often have you been watching a program about the NHS featuring extremely large NHS staff going about their work with some difficulty and thinking to yourself: “Not a good advert for medicine”.
They’re not meant to be an advert, they’re meant to be doing their job!
Luckily we all have different senses of humour.

Not sure it’s lucky or beneficial to anyone to have such a misanthropic outlook!
However, if you think it’s ‘ha ha funny’ to see an overweight person eating a huge pizza but drinking Diet Coke then fair enough. To me it’s ironic but sad.
Always amuses me on passing the local Pizza Hut to see vast people tucking into their 12″ mega pizzas with stuffed crust and drinking Diet Coke.

Poor education about food isn’t that funny.
Bruce eating to much I agree is a complex issue apart other symptoms are to put it bluntly greed, laziness in preparing a balanced diet, lack of self worth and pure addiction to food to name just a few. Members of Parliament who open there mouths on a variety of issues should put ther own house in order first. Yes this is about one particular person in one party. I would make the same comments over other members of other parties regarding any other issues that don’t sit well with me if they had a similar position of influence. The late Charles Kennedy and his alcoholism, Lord Janner who escaped his day in court by his death. Just to balance the books I will also mention John Profumo not for his affair but for lying to the house about it.
Wings43 I would do the same about a man who was also in the limelight to name one the “alleged” pedophile and fat creature Cyril Smith who I believe would be in the dock in 21st century Britain where we seem to be gradually investigating persons of substance and authority instead of sweeping allegations under the carpet. Oh I nearly forgot one MP Bobby Sands, slimmer of the year 1981.
I’m just shaking my head. Unbelievable
OK exactly what are her policies then? Does she encourage the policy of children in state schools to eat more healthily and endorse any policy for adults to lose weight and cut the rate of diabetes and associated complaints for another to reduce the burden on the NHS for another? Obesity is one of the greatest drains on the health system in this country
From Public Health England
In 2007 estimates of the direct NHS costs of treating overweight and obesity, and related morbidity in England were £4.2 billion and estimated to be £6.3 billion in 2015. Modelled projections suggest that indirect costs of obesity could be as much as £27 billion by 2015.
The point is perhaps she should lead by example as a senior member of the shadow cabinet and shed a few stone.
Obesity is a very serious problem and needs tackling and I agree there but you know nothing of her personal health issues. She might not be able to lead by example and frankly I don’t think she should have to not should her health be something that you should be examining in a forum. I can’t imagine this conversation being had if she was a man. Regardless, it’s bizarre and some of this thread is like bullies operating in a playground.
Well it’s an observation but what’s your point. Does that have any effect on her competence etc etc. What has her bmi or weight to do with anything?
What is the point of your post?
As Bruce says, talk about her policies and your views on them.
How is it inaccurate?
If you care to explain and I’m wrong then I’ll happily concede but Harold did use fear and violence to consolidate power and they are recreating the battle are they not?
A service of rememberance for this seems as odd as the overblown service for Richard III which was bizarre
Diane Abbot’s appearance suggests that she is obese to the degree that she will experience a number of ailments if she fails to lose weight. I don’t consider this bitchy or a shallow judgement. You shouldn’t be Shadow Health Secretary if you fall into a group of people at a greater risk of Type 2 Diabetes or heart disease than the general population. Surely this is common sense?
It’s not common sense it is stupid.
How does being overweight mean she could not make rational judgements on health policy. Her own individual circumstances of health could be down to any number of factors.
So much of the comments on this thread are full of hate and are downright sexist.
Friday 14th October is the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, AD1066. The outcome of this Battle and its effects are with us to this day.
For those who are interested, a Service of Remembrance for King Harold and all who died with him in the shield wall will be held at Battle Abbey on Saturday, 15th Oct. followed by a battle re-enactment which, if nothing else, will be enthusiastic.
A service of rememberance for a man who led through fear and violence. What a laugh. Mark it with a ceremony as it is important historically but a service of rememberance! Give us a break. They follow it by recreating their deaths!
Very funny when you think about it.
15th September, 1940. Raise a glass and salute this day. Battle of Britain Day.
A better call than your last salute request!
What baffles me is that he has gone to Spain seeing as he complains so much about about Europe and is so nationalistic.
