surely thats a wingless Blackburn Beverly …..
JimC and I have a mutual friend who runs a skip company, the photograph albums and wartime items he finds is saddening. Some people have no concept of the history when they throw away items from their own familys past.
My guess would be that the developers will call the estate something cringeworthy like Vulcan’s Eerie and produce an artists impression showing the Vulcan at the entrance to a select development of executive-style homes. This will then either be quietly forgotten once the building starts
Moggy
Spot on, The old main entrance to Hunsdon saw limited housing development with a nice white plywood fence around it , a three bladed propeller motif and the legend LIBERTY FIELDS adorned underneath. After they were built it became Hempstall close, something to do with the original landowners name and not even an air force related name!
Marksman or Skill At Arms instructors Badge.
That is some collection!
I had an email from Tim, he is recovering from a fracture of his spine..
I’m sure he will see this and respond soon.
“why is he selling a P-40 and Hurricane for another Spit?”
We all know that it is his collection and that he can do as he needs/pleases. But from operating aircraft of more distinctive types, I also don’t understand the selling on of the P-40 & Hurribomber. Another Spitfire, however painted, whatever it’s history is just that…another Spitfire.
Living on the route into and out of North Weald, I would always nip outdoors at the sound of the P-40 and the quieter Hurricane for a quick look, I never seem to at the sound of his Mustang and his Spitfire passing overhead.
He must have thought long and hard about this decision, it is not one made lightly I will wager, but as a selfish bystander one I don’t really understand either!
I shall miss both of them operating out of NW if they are sold, I hope the Hurricane stays in the UK though…
Well that sucks!
Looks like I have attended my last legends too then. I really cannot afford to pay out in advance for rainy gloomy days out. The weather conditions for the weekend have always dictated my attendance, the same for quite a few others as well methinks.
This is sad news, I have helped out a couple of times, once at Halton the other at Woburn.
Woburn is the only place where it all seemed to work well, I shall miss the rally dearly!
And what a labour!
Just how long has Mark been collating Mosquito information?, it must be close on twenty years or so!
I preferred the Book strangely enough, The ending made more sense than the film.
That is a fantastic piece of film!
In 1942 Ventura’s of 464 were operating from Feltwell & Methwold, but started flying Circus missions from advanced bases such as Exeter and Portreath around the 9th January 1943, this film then dates from either that date or not long after. Targets in France were in Brittany that couldnt be reached from the Norfolk bases, although Cherbourg could.
Thanks for sharing this!
