Many thanks!
Thanks you for your answers, I take it that John Young the artist is the same Wing Commander John Young?
I have three on the go at the moment.
‘Airfields of the D-Day Invasion Force: 2nd Tactical Air Force in South-east England in WWII’.
‘One Christmas in Washington’, the story of the meeting between Churchill and Roosevelt to forge the Grand Alliance.
and something totally arcane ‘The Hiram Key’
Likewise!
Congrats Bruce:)
From a Hawker Hurricane Bruce?
Carbon arc lamps eh?, Thanks Nick:)
I have found a few bits of this on this particular airfield in the past. It is very light and has a core rather like a thick version of pencil lead. Two sizes found, Nine sixteenths of an inch wide and seven sixteenths of an inch. They are not old batteries nor are they carbon. Found near a former dispersal area

An intriguing photograph indeed.
I did make my ‘Merlin engined B-17 eh?….methinks pure speculation at the least! comment purely to point out that it would be unfeasible for a B-17 to be re-engined for flight with Merlins in this day and age.
My original comment was not meant to be a put down. If it appeared so then apologies:o The context of my answer probably falling foul to forumitis or internet interpretation!:)
Hello,
Pure speculation but could a B17 run on the engines your all talking about.Once on a visit to the hangar at Hardwick I caught sight of a small table depicting most of Mr Hammonds collection in model format.

A similar line could be taken with Stansteds expansion. There are plans submitted to build between 12,000 and 20,000 houses on land North of Harlow. Would not these new houses be built under the flightpath into Stansted?
I seem to recall rightly or wrongly that you couldnt build houses underneath an existing airport approach. A line of thought that I would have thought opposers to the east of england Plan for Harlow north have utilised. But as DX does not fall into the ‘airport’ category would that make any difference?
Progress eh:rolleyes:
