We found this graffiti inside the Gosfield Tower. The owner paints around the picture in an effort to preserve it.
Gosfield was the home of the 365th Fighter Group,397th Bomb Group (M),410th Bomb Group (M), and 299 Squadron. Not modern RAF I know, but graffiti all the same;)
[QUOTE=Yak 11 Fan So maybe it’s best for the owner to paint it himself then……[/QUOTE]
Blinking good job I have not got the money to buy a warbird, I cant even get the house right according to the missus:) . I would not stand a chance owning an aircraft with you lot ripping apart my paint scheme;)
In my Humble opinion it has to be Wing Commander Adrian Warburton.
Far to early for festivities yet!
Is there a smiley for ‘Bah Humbug’ ? 😀
Ever since Gerald Coulson painted Operation Jericho (Amiens Riad), I’ve always thought that the mission would make an excellent TV drama. Now that the CGI technology has become more affordable, I’m more convinced than ever that such projects is viable.
And a cracking good drama it would make too. Although there is much to be found relating to the raid, a reconstruction of the whole operation with what is known now, is a must.
The lady pictured below is ‘Beatrice’ who, with the Resistance, was actually there, waiting outside the prison to help with the escape of the prisoners. Her perspective in any film or drama would be of paramount importance.
She told us that she had met Group Captain Pickard several times before, when he was with 161(SD) Squadron at Tempsford.
Thank you Philip
This forum never fails to deliver 🙂
We had to spread the weekend out for honouring the Hunsdon and Sawbridgeworth memorials. Just a handful of us who built the memorials, together with two Gents from the Nazeing RAFA Assc.
Sawbridgeworth saw us there on Saturday, with Hunsdon being honoured today at 11 AM.
I suppose the memorials locations on cold and windy old airfields put others off of visiting. At least the guns of the clay-pidgeon shooting club on Hunsdon airfield fell silent for us though, pity that the microlite pilot started his engine at the moment the minutes silence started!
Correct, just looked at the profile of a Cromwell and it fits. Now trying to find out what powered it.
edit: The RR Meteor was the power plant for the Cromwell. This is strange as I have seen the remains of the radial inside this very Tank
I have been up close to this tank, It has the remains of a nine cylinder radial engine buried within. Early Sherman I was led to believe by a local chap. It was used on the range as a target.
There is a small block of prefabs on the outskirts of Essendon near Hertford. one or two are still lived in, the rest have been boarded up recently.
A shame really, I am sure with a little work they could be let out again. Someone would benefit from their restoration at least.
Our small group will divide to lay wreaths at Hunsdon and Sawbridgeworth airfield memorials. We will have one or two RAFA members along as well to say the words.
🙂 Belated congratulations
Hello deank,
The white flashes on the forage caps denote aircrew under training, that is about all I can help you with. I am sure others will be able to help though. Good luck.
Congratulations Bruce !
Will she be at ‘Legends’ ? 😀
Some very sophisticated equipment on hand for sorting the debris from the soil. Just the right measure for trying to find fragments of the missing crew members remains.
Please keep us posted Cees
