This was the report
India will opt for a foreign powerplant for the first seven squadrons of its Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA), increasing doubts over the status and viability of the indigenous Kaveri engine programme.
“For the next six to seven years, the Kaveri programme will be decoupled from the LCA programme. This is to allow the LCA to reach its own targets and without being held back by the problems with the Kaveri,” says P S Subramanyam, programme director [combat aircraft] at India’s Aeronautical Development Agency, which is responsible for the Tejas’s design and development.
“While we remain committed to the Kaveri programme over the long run, we think that it will take some time to be ready for our aircraft. Therefore, we have decided that the first seven squadrons of the Tejas will use a foreign engine.”
The ADA is eager to deliver the first Tejas, which has also been plagued by delays, early in 2011. That is the main reason for the decision to push aside the Kaveri.
I dont think any war in the Sub-continent will ever be a “walk in the park” for any party involved. Such talk shows very very little knowledge of the reality of war. Adding a smiley at the end amplifies the type of statement you just made……
I was just talking about the IAF vs PAF, PAF will have much more deterrence in future related to now. At the moment the 100 odd MKIs the IAF have is enough to attain total Aerial Superiority.
See Teer’s post earlier in this thread. The DARIN II has most of the things you asked for.

So basically nothing is certain is what we are actually saying?
Non oen actually knows for sure and I have a feeling that in their quest to desperatley try and get their engine ustalled, the makers of Kaveri may delay the LCA project.
If Kaveri selected it may not be up to the job and if GE/Eurojet selected people wil shout a domestic equievelent could have been used.
Kaveri engine project is effectively decoupled from the LCA project. Meaning that the LCA MK2 will have foreign engines. This is the status now and nothing is uncertain about it.
Indian Aircraft development will not end with the LCA, there is the MCA and may be other projects down the pipeline and Kaveri can serve them well. 😉
Well the Upgraded Indian Jags with LiteningII should have decent precision strike capability. The Engine upgrade will add to the payload capability as well.
It can be safely assumed that by the time Pakistan gets the FC-20 with AESA, the MKIs will also have an AESA radar.
All of the MRCA competitors have AESA as well so it is not much of a contest if it goes to an all out war.
But you are right the Pakistani strategi of Several squadrons of FC 20/ F 16 52+ and JF 17 to make up numbers should provide enough detterence. (i.e. It will not be a walk in the Park as it is now 🙂 )
I dont understand now, is Kaveri going to power MkII or are they going for Eurojet/GE!?
The Snecma thing may be used to bargain with GE/Eurojet on their engine order.
I think if successful it will be used for the MCA as well as re engining the MK 1 LCAs at a future date.
If PAF don’t manage to buy a new generation western fighter (like what happened to Gripen acquisition) than there will be nothing left for PAF in the next decade.
There will not be any Indo-Pak war this coming decade. So PAF will be there and good.
Hopefully more economic co-operation between the two countries will make War a costly exercise for both economies and inturn lead to peace negotiations.
I was talking about Iranian F 7s.
The U.S.A do not give aid to these countries as handouts. They do it for a variety of reasons aimed at serving their interest in the respective regions.
Which Italian SAM are you guys getting ?
Thats not a crazy suggestion. It may well be the case, although a Grifo/AIM-9L armed crank winged PG is a very different opponent to a bog standard Iranain F-7.
I would think they would have done some home-made upgrades to keep them current like they have done with their other fighters.
It has to start with ‘F’ Fiddler ?
F**ker won’t be bad either. Two F**kers on my tail.
To add to what EGPH said they have the balls to condemn the UK for expressing its disappointment. It has the audacity to tell organizers in neutral countries not to praise Chinese dissidents etc.
The world has bent backwards to please the Chinese, but this will change one day. Every U.S President is not going to be an Obama and in time Europe will grow some collective balls :).
