It has also to do with the LCAs conservative testing routines. Many folks say the Gripen crashed LCA did not. With such slow pace in testing and non-expansion of g limits its hardly surprising.

which will be of no use..the Naval LCA is much farther along than any notional Sea Gripen. and already the Indian Navy has placed an order with HAL for Rs 900 crore for 6 N-LCAs and an N-LCA prototype is under construction as of now.

You really do not know that do you. Why was the RFI issued then not just to SAAB but to others as well. The N-LCA may well enter IN service but I think the current RFI is to replace MIG 29Ks in future carriers.

The F22s look cool with those tanks :). I wonder if they dogfight with them.

On the contrary I thank Dare 2 for livening up the forum as it was becoming rather dull. Regards πŸ™‚

The term SUPERsonicCRUISE involves the notions of cruise and supersonic flight regime.

Its is up to LM to explain that. They coined that term. Dassault and other manufacturers can define ‘super cruise’ to suit the limitations of their product. But the real Supercruise is what LM/USAF defines it.

It would be better if the others would call their phenomenon supersonic cruise.

Yes, we are indeed talking about the term LM have coined. Let me quote their own CodeOne mag from Jan 1999..

The ability to supercruise, to sustain supersonic speeds without using the afterburner, will get us to the fight quicker than anyone can expect.

This debate is finished, at least for me..

If you coin a term you can change its definition as well.

If it is a term they coined, they can define it as they wish i guess. Like I said before they should have applied for a registered trade mark on it.

    Supercruiseβ„’

You invent it, you define the parameters and keep the name.

We are talking about Supercruise, not supersonic cruise.

Take an extra strength dose of salt every time anyone says anything extraordinary about the Tiffy. The Gripen folks better watch out – their PR dept. seems to be dangerously close to being affected by the phoon disease too.

You have clearly stated what your favourite bird is after the Fulcrum :). So it is no surprise you are a bit one-eyed in your analysis. For me Rafale vs Typhoon is like a tv drama, with twists and turns, eagerly awaiting the Typhoon counter claims.

Quite. It would be a waste of a C-17, and considering the worlds largest user is the USAF, fitting a boom might be a little problematic!

With the congress funding more C 17s than the USAF wants, it is not that bad an idea.

In a recent mock exercise with the U.S. Navy, the French jets “dropped” six F-18 and lost only two aircraft. The U.S. pilots said they could only see the Rafale on the radar when it was too late to react. Now, who needs to act fast is the Brazilian government.

Would love an original source on this. Rafale may well beat the Super Hornet A2A but i am a bit unsure about the stealth favouring Rafale.

    See what I mean ?
The typhoon is always presented as the ultimate interceptor while the rafale is fine but nothing special in A2A…
But where are the proofs of the rafale being that much inferior than the Typhoon in A2A ?
Both aircrafts have met several times during NATO exercices for the past 3 years and the typhoon has never proved ANYTHING special against the rafale, NE-VER. And if I believe the various rumors from the french aviators, it is even quite the contrary.

    He kinda has a point.

Also if the recently posted results are true then Rafale is under-marketed. They should dismiss their PR guys and hire new ones.

Dare 2 wiill do wonders. πŸ™‚

CBI =! FBI. There was no equivalent of FBI in India to watch out people’s privacy and movements. The IB rarely involved. But after 26/11 Govt of India created a new agency named NIA (National Investigation Agency). The NIA will do the necessary investigation against anti-national elements inside India with out halting general people’s privacy.

Well CBI does everything the FBI does bar national/internal security. I think India just has too many agencies formed to satisfy the people and journos after major terror attacks and intelligence mishaps. One or two well thought about agencies is enough. πŸ˜‰
