What do Argentina need an airforce for if its not to defend its borders and fighting wars. They can just buy Super Tuccanos or some trainers with light attack if it only needs border policing.

If they are spending millions on fighters they should be capable in an event of War, and military planners do tend to think much further than their civilian coutner parts, for example the current govt. may want a peaceful resolution on the Falklands, a future one may just go for a conflict, in which case the Airforce would do much better with something like the Rafale/Su 30 than a Block 50/52.

Also discussion of the use of weapons in war is part and parcel of millitary aviation.

The big problem with Russian or Chinese hardware is a complete lack of a support system. Everything here is incompatible with non western equipment. Surely a deal could be made, and it would make a lot of sense too, but it’s very unlikely.

May be India or China can be roped in for support I think the Malaysians and Indonesians are doing that now.

If they want something that is carrier capable/something that could challenge the Typhoon and the F 35, they should simply get Rafale M.

Indian Su 30s are not that much affected by the spares problem largely because most thigns are built in India now. The only issue they mentioned was wrt tyres.

Su 30 MKI/MKM or Su35s will lick all of the above mentioned fighters (may be bar the Gripen NG) in A2A combat and will pose a good threat vs the Typhoons.

Actually they are the sensible choice.
