With America you know what you get, its all laid out. You know which lines you can and which ones you cannot cross. They make this things known all the time.

With Russians they promise you everything and deliver only half of what is promised, Escalates price previously agreed (Gorshkov), Increasing price two fold for follow on deliveries (Follow on Su 30s and MIG 29Ks) etc.

And like certain car dealers, the sales team is good the service is rather poor.

Now this backstabbing is not done because of any strategic interests. But profit motive and lack of business ethics by the Russians.

I can understand your logic in cases like the Tejas and Arjun.

But we are not going to develop C-130 & C-17 class airlifters over night, and Americans have a history of being reliable suppliers as long as the relationship is good.

Russians on the other hand profess to be our best buddies and stabs us behind our back when it comes to spares.

Seemingly exasperated by low-availability/serviceability for years as a consequence of what it has described unofficially as “unpredictable Russian support” and the country’s apparent unwillingness to honour after-sales commitments, the Indian Air Force is looking for the first time beyond Russia for long-term maintenance and product support of its fleet of Ilyushin-76 heavy transports and Ilyushin-78M tanker transports at Agra, Chandigarh, Delhi and Nagpur.

The C 130s and C17s can’t arrive fast enough.

Yes, but in what time frame? Tejas doesn’t leave me much optimism that a completely in-house project will have any sort of reliable schedule.

I think going at a 5th gen program alone is stupid from an economic perspective, unless of course you have a specific requirment that no one else fits. I find it had to believe India and Russia couldn’t come to an agreement on an adaptable light(ish) platform.

But AMCA is supposed to be 2 engine correct? I think the RuAF needs a single engine “5th gen” platform.

Even if its a bit delayed a fully independent AMCA will have its own benefits. India will have the FGFA and MRCA in numbers to make up for any eventual delays in this program. May be they selected two of the newest designs for MRCA considering and making room for any eventual delay in AMCA.

Regarding the June edition on JF-17…alot of stuff we more or less know, but the paper takes you into great details into the history of jf-17 and PAC Kamra. Its a great reference materials if you are digging up details.

PAF fighters know their F 16s very well, which makes me wonder why LM wasted time offering F 16 to the IAF.
