As bad as he was Gaddaffi was a stabilizing force. Libya lacks a civil society and people to take over once he is gone, it is in a way worse than the situation in Iraq after Saddam minus troops to stabilize it. Libya may slip into a long and bloody civil war making many of us wish Gaddafi hadn’t gone.

The T-90 is going to be the mainstay of the army, Arjun has been a spectacular failure of a program in the grand scale of things.

Yeah the Uber Russian Tanks. After the Abysmal showing of the T 72s in the Gulf War (the Russian excuse was Monkey models) and yet more during the conflict in Chechnya and with Georgia that is some nerve claiming the T series superiority over the Arjun.

The Arjun is designed by the same team which designed the Leopard 2 arguably the worlds finest MBT.

What you don’t understand is the Army did not want any more Arjuns before the trials but the performance difference was so much that it had no option but to do so.

The main reason the T 90 was preffered to the Arjun is not the formers superior capability but because Indian Armys logistics were built around lighter Russian tanks for so long.

Oh and Indian Army is modernising the T 72 with the help of Raytheon and not the Russians.

Derby For Tejas A Kosher Deal?

The Indian Tejas light combat aircraft programme’s decision to arm the platform with Israeli Derby air-to-air missiles has already raised questions, both from rival missile makers (who have an interest, obviously, since the decision means lost potential business) as well as officials in government. To begin with, a question hangs over whether the selection of the Derby was based on a competitive bid process (sources say it wasn’t) by the Aeronautical Development Agency. Second, the rather adverse observations that India’s national audit watchdog made last year on Rafael’s supply of the same missile to the Indian Navy for its Sea Harrier limited upgrade package. One person I spoke to in the IAF wondered how such a deal could go through when the operational capabilities of the weapon had been specifically called into question.

Well Rafale was supposed to have won the FX-2 and apart from soem disaffected Swedes (who weren’t bickering or anything) there wasn’t much, people were at point talking carriers and submarines and Brazilian-French Co operation.

I think there would definitley be tantrums after the Indian deal though. especially if an underdog wins.
