RD 93 is not even close to the F414-400 in terms of MTBO/Life span. Forget the EDE.

Modern versions of RD-33 have life of 4000 hours. Now I am not sure what the life of the RD-93 is, but I don’t think F-414 has THAT much more service life.

RD-33 family is one of the most underrated engines IMO.

As for JF-17, that’s your opinion and you are entitled to it. F-35 is ambitious? Perhaps. But it is also incredibly bureaucratic, including a lot of affirmative action issues involved. I won’t get into politics, but you know the idea.

Not much is known about PL-21, except according to the exhibition board it is scheduled for production this year.

1.) I didn’t mean it as an insult. One can be unimpressive, but still right for the job, at the right time. PAF badly needed the JF-17, so in that sense it can be lauded. LCA is a more ambitious program in many aspects, but in terms of delivery it has been wanting.

2.) No doubt about F-35 mess, but then again, to be expected with a program of that magnitude and depth. What do you mean by affirmative action, in this case?
