More bull**** at defense talk, and from our good old friend gf0012!

Guess what, I’ve also talked to PVO guys (including family, not “some mechanic”), including those who worked on MiG-31, yeah, it had rough availability at first….key word…at first….20 years ago…overhyped, lol right. Which is why the RuAF is upgrading more of these ovehyped birds than the much easier to service Su-27 and MIG-29! I do so love when armchair generals know more about RuAF neccesity than the RuAF itself.

Topol-M makes net centric US warfare a pointless argument, if we are going down that road (some stupid Russia vs entire NATO argument).

Anyways, a superb photo if Su-24MP, 2012. Great angle of wing mechanism.

There is difference modulwise, numberwise. I will try to dig up the numbers. Does Russian AF (ex Algerian) SMT’s have actual Zhuk of any kind? I have always been thinking it had good old N019.

100% it is Zhuk-M.

Seems plausible, general figures I see indicate fighter detection range roughly doubled from Zaslon, which IIRC was around 140km for fighter target.

That is better. Because UPG=/=SMT. 🙂 UPG is beyond SMT, but far. Just radar should give you pointers.

What is so much better about Zhuk-M2E over Zhuk-M? :confused:
Otherwise it has a fancier ECM suit, thats about it.

AFAIK it is N-001VP as well. Some say SM has V, some VP.

Cockpit has 5 MDFs for example, Sm has only 3. Some additional Su-35 esque antennas on the outside, IIRC.
N-001V has ground modes built in.

Torzhok recieves 17 new helicopters, date of delivery not specified. The birds include Mi-28Ns, Ka-52s, Mi-8MTV-5 and Mi-35. Before the end of the month, Torzhok is due to receive 4 new KA-226s as well. In total, in 2012 the RuAF will receive around 90 helicopters, as has been stated numerous times.

Su-27SM3 has interesting differences, both externally and in the cockpit to SM though.

Nothing has the long range, supersonic endurance of the MIG-31 on the planet, and whether something will in the next 15-20 years is a if. Add to that huge space for monstrous avionics, and yeah, its definitely worth keeping it around for its role.

Even if the number is 60 in total by 2020, that’s perfectly fine, money does not appear out of Putin’s ass. How many Su-27s were upgrades? How many Su-24s, Su-25s, hell, MiG-29s? 60 is a very decent number for just one platform. You can bet the upgrade costs a hell of a lot more than a Su-25SM, and its not like there were ever more than a dozen modernized in one year.
