For me it’s not a question of believing so much as wondering…
… is the political will there to see it through?
… can Korea secure favourable/non-restrictive terms re: development assistance and supply of parts (read: engines) from foreign partners or looking at a repeat of the radar fiasco with FA-50?
… internal bays or no?With any luck it’ll end up being everything JSF should’ve been and operated by Indonesia in numbers the RAAF could only dream of.
Indonesia has been slowly trickling Su-30s in, I don’t think they will be able to make a large purchase of this kind of decades.

UAC civilian totals in 2011:
In 2010, UAC planned (in 2011) to make 30 civilian airliners: 5 Tu-214/204SM, 2 Tu-204-300, 1 Il-96-400T, 8 An-148, 14 SSJ-100, 1 Il-476.
However, if we tally up planes, by 1st flight in 2011, this number was not reached, and only 15 airliners were built, though some are close to completion. 2 Tu-214, 1 Tu-204SM, 1 Tu-204-300A, 5 SSJ100-95, 1 Il-96-400T, 5 An-148-100.
In addition to the above, 3 more planes are almost finished, but did not have their first flight in 2011: A Tu-204, an SSJ100, and the Il-476.

Navy will get Admiral Grigorovich in 2014.
The second of the class, the Admiral Essen, was laid down in December 2011.

Interesting paint job on a Ukrainian Mi-8.
I think the modules for the angled deck and the island should be more or less ready if they plan to start sea trials that soon. Comparing with GE image from last January, the speed of construction has been impressive.
Ok, makes sense.
Anyone have by chance some firm layouts of what the INS Kolkata will look like, including weapons fit? I get all sorts of conflicting layouts and weapons configurations online. The few launch pics look pretty slick, ship seems to have good lines, at least so far.

All 3 of the class right?
Any details on the phased array on the top mast?
Looks like the navy is getting some big additions before 2015.
F-4 ideal?
Curious……
^^There are also 2 unfinished 949 hulls lying outside sevmash for quite some time.
EDIT: and the usage of bars stuff in borei is also probably true. DIMMI also mentions in his blog that they are used in the third borei Vladimir Monamakh.

Well use of 971 hulls made sense, since a lot of then were laid down right before-right after collapse of USSR and were completed enough to be usefull and cost saving. But Ak-Bars is retired submarine, sounds dubious to me that it would be cut apart and hull used for a 955..what was the reason for scrapping it anyways? Why not use the Irbis, which is in an advanced state of completion for the program?
Regarding 949 hulls, given how different they are from 971, that would require massive redesign no? The “Batons” are huge, the profile would be much wider, not sure it would be worth the trouble. Could probably accommodate more tubes though. What of the Belgorod though? I would think it would be a prime candidate, though if I recall correctly they are thinking of finishing it for special purposes.

Ah finally pics, thanks!
So sea trials are supposed to be in early 2013, does that not sound extremely optimistic?

Good pic of Varyag (in Canada) that shows the laser attachment to the CIWS radar, and the optical ball on the AK-630 manual fire mount.
This will be interesting for sure, all the while the decidedly mediocre Il-476 (despite being nothing more than a minimally modified Il-76TD-90) still hasn’t made it into the air. I won’t be a bit surprised if due to the Y-20 the Russians eventually come to regret not having backed the An-70 instead.
I think you are jumping the gun considering how little specifics are known about Y-20. It may be nothing spectacular.
Plus, how much money did they throw into the program, compared to Il-476 investment? I suspect far more.
Also, the An-70 is being backed these days.
Yep, Indian Il-76 overhaul in Russia.

Some superb recent photos of the Big Ole’ “Loafs”.
Some rumors about 955s, could be BS, could be not BS:
Alexander Nevsky got a hole in its light outer hull, apparently another ship was thrown into it during a storm. Small hole, but still.
Rumors that parts of retired 971 Ak Bars will be used for a 955. Sounds unlikely, IMO, however other rumors suggest 949 sections could be used for the 955Ms. Not sure where these would be acquired, aside from Belgorod.
Yeah, let Ukraine buy the F/A-18E:diablo:
With what funds? They can barely modernize ten Su-27s and MiG-29s, SuperBug would ruin them. 😮
