That I think is pretty inaccurate. As discussed, the A2A superiority of the Typhoon is…debatable to say the least, and likely a very close run affair. But different generation? With the Su-35C for example, most of the Typhoons advantages over the MKI disappear, while some of the gaps the Flanker enjoys an advantage in grow. Does that make the Su-35 a different gen from the MKI? I don’t think so.
