As this was last registered in Australia surely it will not be a permit renewal but a new application? The date you refer to is in a field on the CAA site that concerns a review of an application concerning the markings to be carried – how does that relate to a due date for permit?
The very rare ex Ethiopian Firefly trainer (at least) went to France where SFAIK it remains dismantled in storage. I don’t believe that batch of survivors was ever in the U.S. so would not be the Firefly mentioned by the O.P.
If you expand and closely examine the first photo released to the media you can see a fence across the field and it looks as if it is after that point that the track of the aircraft through the crops slews.
There is an interesting piece here describing an interview in 2010 with the WWII pilot of this example in which it mentions that the airframe also had nose art in the form of a “blue clad Varga girl”. There is painting done in the 2000s which depicts that too.
Is that correct? Is the NW based P-51’s scheme now finished – does it perhaps depict an earlier stage in this examples WWII scheme? I am sure they would have used excellent sources – just interested to know.
The changes could be a response to this strategic plan described in the following report. See in particular page 12 – the BoB was not designated as an individual “chapter”:

Beautiful action shoots of the Vampire. I see the Scandinavian Mig 15 is scheduled to appear in the UK again this year – anyone know if it will be based out of North Weald again for the season?

Peter Tallichet? Did you mean to say Peter Teichman?
The Science Museum example made its last flight to the UK. It is a huge shame that it is now entombed and inaccessible at Wroughton where no-one can now appreciate it.
You will find details of that Harvard in this link which includes a photo I took of the aircraft dismantled in Japanese scheme.

By luck I have just seen Hunter XL577 get airborne from Kemble and head South.
I assume it is either on a ferry permit or has been deregistered from the UK register.
Anyone on here know the answer or the destination?
The CAA show it as having been de-registered in February to Jordan.

My name is Tim. I was thanking Dave (from the team now working on the Barra) for his taking time to present such a good report. My post in now way criticised your post or comments, so why the sarcastic retort?

Interesting article Daniel. Brings back memories of one visiting an Air Tattoo over here many years back.
The mention of reusing the same few engines to ferry all the aircraft mirrors a similar approach taken when many Prentices were bought from the RAF and ferried to their resting place – many airframes but only a handful of usable engines!
Great to hear of the progress, but I think that the Bluebird teams diary & fun approach to the progress reports was a much better style and read.

The prior team’s diary was entertaining in its style, but the present team’s report is excellent too. We are fortunate they have taken the time to create such a detailed and well presented update for this Forum – thanks Dave.
Many thanks for the clarification, sounds like the airfield itself isn’t affected so good news.
I mentioned Dan because he already has a very high number – by 2013 he had flown 445+ types / marks so by now (as he continues as a test pilot) he must be creeping towards the 500.
