It may be worth contacting the Royal Aero Club archivist, as that body has always organised the event and is likely to hold original documentation. Aircraft colours used to appear in air racing programmes and so presumably entrants had to declare them in advance maybe on race entrance applications? Perhaps the RAeC may also have images?

The thread title and the fact that G-ADNL was restored to the register in 2004 as a Sparrowhawk are rather strong indicators 🙂

    That would equate to desecration!

Is there any evidence that the aircraft the OP queried (which I believe was N11923) was involved in any of the proposed executive conversion programmes or was it exported to the US for some other purpose?

See also the zombie threads on that subject:

Looks likely to be one and the same as the airframe illustrated in the following link when at Mojave and quoted as ex RAAF A79-617 which became N11923. Now back in Oz I believe, went to Temora and flying as VH-VAM?

… … The other big positive about hanging a/c is that one is often able to see them close-up from angles that would not normally be viewable. … …

You have a point, but it can be overdone. Hopefully care is taken to calculate the likely effects on such airframes, but could hanging at a certain dramatic angles add to risk of distortion over time? If the attitude in which they are hung is at odds with the flying capabilities of the exhibit when “live”, it can be rather misleading to spectators. I am for example, delighted to see the following rare machine on display – but am not a fan of how it is now exhibited.

I see the incident is mentioned in “British Civil A/c since 1919” where A.J.J. reported that:
“Following a successful forced landing on Barnsley Wold … … the owner had the misfortune to collide with the only large tree in the vicinity and ‘BK was consequently destroyed by fire, it’s engineless skeleton remaining a feature of the countryside for several years afterwards.”

So, if true, unlikely you’d find any engines there now.

Most likely concerns Monospar ST-25 G-AHBK which crashed on 2 June 1947 at Barnsley Wold which is near South Cerney.

I don’t remember it looping when I was aboard  Actually, the seat take up was quite good, as only window seats and adjacent aisle seats were offered, though I see on the very last one demand meant that some centre seats were also occupied.

Coventry has remained as the CF maintenance headquarters. As a result there are always major projects being worked upon at the site. The Nimrod and SPT’s Shackleton are present outside too. Airworthy aircraft visit from the NQY site when necessary and the intention is to offer vintage aircraft pleasure flights at CVT as well. The plan is for CVT to have a cafe and small shop all staffed by volunteers. CVT will only be accessible at weekends and entry is to be free.

I am not their official spokesperson but no doubt details will appear on the CAF website in due course:

A piece I wrote about this was published in last month’s edition of “Pilot” magazine. From April 6 the Coventry hangar is to be available to visit at weekends only. Following its Winter break, the Newquay site will reopen as normal and be accessible daily from that date too.

It depicts British Eagle’s Britannia G-AOVF which was named “Friendship” and was converted to a 312F freighter in 1968. Later flew with a series of UK and African independents before withdrawal from use. Surprisingly it survives (painted in spurious RAF colours) at Cosford where is masquerades as XM497.

The DC-10 arrived tonight at BHX, about 1.5h later than the ETA reported yesterday. My photo shows it taxying up its allotted gate as dark set in.
