    Told you:rolleyes:

Can you make out what book she is reading? It all blurs out when I enlarge it.

    That’s nice.

    Do you own it?

I’m guessing the original photo faded out as that looks like an Kodak instamatic 33 picture from the sixties (could be talking ‘tosh’ here)

Any chance of carefully opening it to see if there is another picture underneath?

Yes, just turn up i’ve been told, no charges or fee’s to be incured by exhibitors.

    .

Almost certain to be there, it’s now weather dependant, the Hurri’s not allowed to get wet!

Anyone know what the weather is doing on Sunday at Smearthorpe???

    Double bonus!!:)

I guess it will be too much to ask for the ghastly light alloy cladding to be removed?!

That cladding is what has saved this building from destruction for the last 20 years.

The commentary says that the press was asked not to show what happened, but they were already packing their gear and heading for the studio with their exclusive.

Surely not, who would do such a thing?

Any Canberra experts or pilots know if overshooting with full flap is hazardous/dangerous?? Could this be the reason?

Thank god for that! But I thought it was ‘too close to the R/W’ for CAA guidelines?

I was with a guy that does ‘development’ and he said there are no plans to knock it down, just remove the metal porta cabins off the met office.

thought that would make pagens day!!

    Hello Baz

Wow thats quite a feat of engineering, a bit out of my skill range its a great way out of a big problem. I considered an A frame on a trailer but did not like the look of the sability in high cross winds, also the tail overhangs the lorry by 10Ft and would hit the wings. I finally checked the regs and found I can just carry my wings flat, one stacked on the other using my 7.5 Ton lorry as a towing vehicle, would’nt be legal as you know with a 4X4. I have a hyab on the lorry and use that to lift the wings into place, should take no more than 20 minutes with a bit of practice.
The only drawback is having a 40Ft long train, but I just take it slow and steady.

Yes I have the cannons, they slide on and off.

    Cheers

    Graham

If I can get to Smearthorpe on Sunday with the Hurricane, my engineer will be driving the exhibition trailer, we can show you how to fold your wings, I will bring the bespoke made ‘hinge’ along and you can inspect the trailer.
I can’t promise right now that I can make it, but I will give it my best shot.

Lucky with the cannons, mine on the MKIX are fixed and caused no end of problems when I started shifting it around Cornwall.

    all the best

    Great stuff.

Perhaps it can come to a similiar event at Smeatharpe the next day ?

    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=90239

    .

Can it come at the last minute, no notice? That would be Hurricane minus wings and exhibition trailer with Spitfire cockpit in.
Can’t promise – but give it a go. I see turn up before 0945
Both trailers require special needs for access, one is wide and the other cannot take tight turns, how would that be?
    Will you be there Sunday?

    cheers

    Hello Baz

Would have been a great help to have one of these. How do you load the wings are they tilted. I have had a huge headache trying to figure out how to move them. They wont fit on the 7.5 Ton lorry I have to transport the Spit. Am about to modify a 20Ft ex caravan chassis as a trailer, if I lay the wings flat they are just on the legal width limit for towing at 2.55m.
5K seems like a good deal considering all the expence my transport has cost me not to mention the extra Tax and insurance for the lorry.

My wings will unlock, pull out 4″, rotate 90 degrees leading edge up, then fold to the rear and sit in a ‘saddle’ on the rear fuselage. The opposite wing will have a fold down ‘stay’ to stop any imbalance. The whole thing is gently rachet strapped down. I’ve designed it to be a one man operation, including the winching on and off the trailer. When the wings are folded the radiator is unlocked and removed. The tailplane on mine can also be removed to keep it inside the legal width limit that would render it a wide load. My Spitfire folds similar to a Barracuda and will almost certainly remain on it’s trailer during exhibition, using the trailer as a dias. The wings will not be removed from the fuselage, just folded.

Graham, do you have cannons fitted to your wings? if you do, are they removeable?

    cheers

If the gale force winds were southerly (30kts+) the head wind would have slowed them up a bit, there probably was a weather cut off point where all light a/c would have been grounded, so it would make sense to split them into two separate units. The moment the wind abated you could launch from the beach-head without trying to contact England and wait hours for one to turn up.

I can’t help but giggle at the thought of ‘safety’ of an L4 driver being high on the priorities that particular day.

I disagree, this shows how important they were by the virtue of being on these LCTs.

Naval bombardment spotting was vital in the first few days.

I don’t think people have got used to it yet, as more vids have been posted since but individually, you may have to move them into this thread, like we do at AIX!;)

sorry mate, was getting wrong end of stick?

    But possible I suppose.

If someone posts a video that requires information such as the Canberra one then that is fine and it can stay as a seperate thread. For all others such as the Victor one (bad example I know) they can go into the new thread. The whole point of the Theatre thread is to combine the videos into one place. You can discuss the videos it is not a case of only post videos and no comments? I hope this helps?

    thats fine:)

I hope your not going to over moderate youtube links, some are genuine queries ( canberra down(!)under ) if you stuck this on your ebay style thread it would not get the hits, it would not get the answers. Not all will benefit. I disagree if that is yours and pagens idea. Let it run as a 2 tier system,

    a. Hey look at this! (your post it here thread)

    b. What is this? (on the forum)

    don’t turn this into AIX
